Our client is East Africa’s leading manufacturer of FMCG. They are looking to hire a Head of Finance (HOF) to support business results by optimizing processes, overseeing performance against objectives, and implementing strategies in specific areas. The HOF challenges both the overall business and their team to enhance performance in a structured, profitable manner.
They are responsible for high-quality reporting and forecasting to reflect business results and drive performance. Additionally, the HOF plays a key role in the management team, contributing to strategic decisions, driving compelling business cases, and supporting the COO in board meetings, while also controlling all procurement and IT within the organization.

  • Manage finances, controlling and procurement of a complex and dynamic domestic & export business in East Africa and selected other markets, whilst demonstrating in-depth understanding and contribution to the stakeholder’s financial policies.
  • Ensure compliance with local & East African relevant legislations in all matters related to finance incl. statutory, VAT & taxes
  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of developments within finance, business and markets generally and can relate & use that to grow/improve the business.
  • Key driver & instigator of compelling business cases, Board meetings & Board materials, the yearly budget and quarterly forecast processes.
  • Lead, motivate & drive the finance function for Kenya and relevant export markets & control all procurement processes & costs.
  • Hold the overall responsibility for establishing the reporting & forecasting processes for Kenya and all relevant export markets to reflect current business requirements and drive performance delivery.
  • Has a proactive & constructive role in agreement and alignment of performance targets and assumptions with the whole business and drives & execute plans with own functions.
  • Is the finance lead on significant activities/projects within the business as well as cross- function/cross-company (e.g. Projects together with a stakeholder)
  • Lead & own the process for follow-up on business projects, including strong articulation of financial deliveries but also ensuring that any learnings are embedded.
  • Manages and develops a team of finance staff to deliver consistent and strong results within all functions, yet allowing for the diversity of each function in line with the values of the company.
  • Build & manage strong relationships with shareholders, Brand owners, key stakeholders, KAM & banks
  • Actively monitoring business regulations/benefits in Kenya & relevant export markets, that can benefit the business ( e.g. Duty remission schemes )
  • Manage & control of procurement and constantly challenging the costs of raw materials and other goods needed for running the company
  • Manage & drive the IT development of the company
  • Develop and maintain strong & good relationships with KRA , Banks & and other relevant business stakeholders
  • Prepare annual report, tax returns etc. in compliance with IFRS and other relevant accounting and tax standards.
  • Ensure an efficient and compliant audit process – both for local and Group auditors
  • Oversee and manage the daily accounting processes – ensuring accurate and timely monthly reporting to local management, authorities, and shareholders.
  • Experience with working in an international environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting/Economics or related field
  • Master’s degree would be an added advantage
  • CPA (K) or ACCA is required
  • Ideally 2-3 years as an Accountant in a “Big 4” consulting firm, followed by relevant experience in FMCG with local production (to understand larger CAPEX investments)
  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience within FMCG, including working with teams within the whole value chain.
  • Experience working in a joint venture will be an added advantage
  • Multi-cultural work background
  • Very strong in EXCEL & PPT
  • Experience with SAP would be an advantage
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal in English.
  • Ability to work with and motivate a team
  • Experience of hiring and performance managing a team.
  • Used to work in an international team with focus on performance and respect for each other.
