Overall Job Function

Reporting to their respective Field Team Leaders, the Field Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for collecting blood samples for DBS in the household during the survey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visit assigned survey households and obtain informed consent, assent or parental/guardian permission from eligible members to conduct blood draws and required testing.
  • Conduct finger pricks, followed by all other survey testing as per SOPs.
  • Label all collected blood samples, document all test results in electronic (Tablet) and manual formats then package samples for storage and shipping
  • Ensure safe disposal of biohazard waste.
  • Provide referral for polio vaccination for all eligible survey participants.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Biomedical Sciences required.
  • Must be Registered Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) with a valid license.
  • Must have experience in phlebotomy
  • Experience in field data collection and/or surveys an added advantage
  • Willing to travel for field work
  • Ability to work non-standard working hours (evening, weekends and holidays)
  • Willingness to carry out other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
