How CSS Helped Me Bounce Back After Redundancy

When you face unexpected redundancy, you may often find yourself at a crossroad because you may not know what lies ahead.

Joseph Maigua

When the company that Joseph Maigua worked for went through restructuring and some of the positions were declared redundant, he had to look for another opportunity.

Through the internet, he learned about the Corporate Staffing website, where he learned about the Finance Manager role we had advertised for our client in the Automotive Industry.

Here is his inspiring story;

Tell us about yourself.

I am an experienced finance professional with over 10 years of experience working in real estate, distribution, hospitality, the food processing industry, and donor-funded organizations.

Proficient in financial management, internal auditing, strategic planning, forecasting future trends, formulating financial strategies, tax planning, payroll management and statutory remittances, cost analysis, and budgeting.

How long have you been looking for a job?

I had been looking for a job for several months after the company I was working for underwent restructuring, and some positions were declared redundant.

What has your job search experience been like?

The experience has been very tough because the job market is competitive and saturated with many job seekers with the same qualifications competing for the few available opportunities.

Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?

Yes. I was targeting NGO jobs, but the roles that I was qualified for required experience in multi-national companies, UN, WHO, USAID, or the big audit firms.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

I was surfing the internet when I came across CSS website and was interested in exploring more and that is when I came across the finance manager role.

How was the application and interview process?

The application process was flawless and straightforward. The interview process was profound, and I interacted well with the interviewer.

Did you think you would get the job?

I was confident that I would be considered for the role because I ticked almost all the boxes of the requirements that the employer was looking for.

What do you think employers look for or check when selecting suitable candidates?

Employers always seek the ‘right fit’ regarding qualifications, experience, and attitude. They also look for a candidate whose core values align with their needs to help the company achieve its strategic objectives.

Many professionals continue to look for jobs during this competitive job market. What is your advice to them?

I advise them to be persistent when looking for a job and apply for the right jobs that meet the requirements to increase their chances of succeeding.

What is the secret to getting a job in this competitive market?

Develop a diverse set of skills, have the right qualifications, be on the lookout for the opportunities you meet the requirements, and apply for the jobs immediately to increase your chances of being shortlisted.

If you were to speak to any professional out there, what is one thing you would tell them to do to succeed in 2023?

Success happens when opportunity meets preparedness. Invest in continuous learning to acquire the necessary skills to position you for success in your job search.
