3 Tips To Help Your CV Stand Out

By Ruoro Kairu

The job market is full of professionals looking for the same positions as you are. To get ahead of the other applicants, your CV needs to stand out.

When looking for a job, your CV is the greatest marketing tool. With it, you’re able to show the employer what you have done, the skills you’ve gathered, your past experience, and why you’re best suited for the job.

Unfortunately, many professionals get it wrong. When your CV isn’t professional, the employer will toss it aside in a matter of minutes.

I spoke with Ms. Evaline, a professional CV writer at Corporate Staffing Services. I asked her how you can ensure your CV stands out, and here are three tips she shared.

1. Convert your accomplishments to numbers

Before a hiring manager can invite you for an interview, they’ll first review your CV to see the accomplishments you’ve made that would fit the position.

Listing your accomplishments improves your chances of getting a job. However, to stand out, there’s still more to do.

When you add numbers to your qualifications, you showcase your prowess to carry out your tasks.

For example, instead of saying you made sales calls to customers, you can add numbers. The accomplishment can be ‘made an average of 50 calls a day with a conversion rate of 85%)

Go over your list of accomplishments and see how you can quantify each.

2. Show off your strengths

As mentioned above, your CV is a marketing tool. To make the CV more noticeable, include your strengths.

Most professionals go for modesty while writing a CV. However, you should not be afraid to brag, if you have made a significant step in your career, or achieved a major fete, include it in your CV.

3. Customize your CV

A common mistake most professionals make is sending the same CV in all applications.

While an employer is going through applications, they have an idea of a perfect candidate. No two employers will have the same ideal candidate in mind.

Sending one CV in all applications means the CV is generic. As such, you won’t be able to appeal to the idea an employer has.

Before sending in your application, go over the job description; look at the skills and requirements the organization is looking for. Add these skills to your CV to help you stand out more.

A great CV will get you called into interviews. When your CV doesn’t stand out, you’ll send it to dozens of employers without getting a response.
