A Day In The Life Of A Career Advisor

Many people view recruiters as strict people who sit behind a desk scheming through large numbers of applications.

That is not the case. There are different personalities that work for Corporate Staffing Services and they all have a story.

Below is Rebecca’s story;

Background

“I grew up in Nairobi area. I am a First born in a family of many,” she laughs. For as long as she can remember, Rebecca has always loved talking to people and leaving them better than she found them. She knew that she would seek a career where she would make a positive impact in people’s lives every single day.

How she started working for Corporate Staffing

Rebecca works as a Career Advisor at Corporate Staffing Services. She had never imagined that she would work for this organization. It was a big name in her eyes and she did admire the work that they do.

“Like any other job seeker, I was searching online for jobs that had been posted when I came across the advertisement on the Corporate Staffing website. I applied and was invited for an interview. I remember I was shaky and nervous. The experience was not as I had expected. The recruiters were friendly and made me feel comfortable. They saw potential in me and picked me. I was elated!”

Her typical day activities

Working as a career advisor means talking to lots of clients. It requires one to be a good listener and very keen. Sometimes you pick up information and issues that clients may need to address so as to progress with their careers. “My day involves meeting clients for consultations, professionally writing CVs and in some cases speaking at different occasions. It doesn’t end once the client leaves my office. I do follow up so as to find out how the client is progressing and ways in which I could assist further. I get a lot of fulfillment when clients get back to me thanking me for leading them in the right direction, it feels great.”

Her inspiration

She believes in having the spirit of excellence. This means always doing the best possible to make things happen. She would love to make a difference everywhere and to everyone she meets. Staying focused on the end goal is what keeps her focused. “Work is a blessing. If everyone saw it this way, they wouldn’t complain about it so much.”

Her Interests

Rebecca loves to sing, to write, learning opportunities and mentoring young girls in church.

Her personal motto

Do not do anything just to please. There is no satisfaction in that. Do it for yourself, focusing on your vision and only then will you reap the fruits of your labor.

Career advice for Job seekers

“You cannot sit and wait for things to happen. You need to wake up, smell the coffee, drink it and start on. Stand out in every way. Do not be content with the bare minimum. Go over and above in every task that you set out to do.”
