About the role
We are seeking a Marketing & Brand Strategy Consultant to help define, test, and activate the optimal market positioning for products that incorporate Essential’s protein. The consultant will play a critical role in generating consumer and market insights and translating them into actionable strategies for product design, pricing, packaging, branding, and communications — both for Essential as an ingredient and for our buyers’ final products.

Key project areas
- Product and ingredient positioning: Develop evidence-based positioning for final consumer-facing products that include Essential’s ingredient (e.g., protein-fortified flours, rice blends, snacks) that generate consumer interest and willingness to pay.
- Consumer research and market intelligence: Design and oversee studies to assess consumer preferences, price sensitivity, market segmentation, and regional sales dynamics across key geographies and retail channels.
- Brand and creative strategy: Define how Essential should be represented as an ingredient brand — on-pack, in messaging, and through co-branding opportunities — to build trust, distinctiveness, and consistency.
- Creative translation: Develop clear, insight-driven creative briefs for buyer marketing teams and external agencies covering packaging, promotion, and communication.
- Pack and format optimization: Recommend optimal pack formats and packaging options for different consumer segments (e.g., single-serve instant products, 1+ kg family packs, separate seasoning packages).
- Pricing and value strategy: Create a data-driven pricing framework balancing affordability, margin, and perceived value.
- Channel strategy and execution: Identify high-potential channels (modern trade, general trade, institutional, DTC) and support partners on channel-specific activation strategies.
- Partnership marketing: Serve as the marketing counterpart to buyer marketing teams, helping design and align co-branded promotion, communication, and go-to-market strategies.
Profile
- 6+ years of experience in marketing strategy, brand management, and / or consumer insights, ideally within food, FMCG, or related consumer sectors.
- Proven experience designing and interpreting market research and segmentation studies, and translating findings into actionable go-to-market strategies.
- Strong creative instincts and ability to develop or evaluate brand narratives, packaging design, and visual identity direction.
- Skilled at connecting consumer data with creative execution, pricing strategy, and channel design.
- Comfortable collaborating with both technical (product and R&D) and commercial (sales, buyer) teams.
- Nairobi-based, with a deep understanding of East African consumer dynamics and retail landscapes.
