How We Trained Inuka Africa’s Regional Managers on Ownership, Accountability & Performance

Last week, we had the opportunity to facilitate a two-day leadership and performance management training for Inuka Africa’s Regional Managers. The program brought together leaders responsible for driving regional performance, portfolio quality, recovery, productivity, and team management across different regions.

The training focused on a critical leadership challenge many organizations face today:

How can Regional Managers move beyond supervising activity to truly owning results, driving accountability, and building high-performing teams?

In many growing organizations, Regional Managers are expected to balance business growth, portfolio quality, collections, productivity, and people management all at once. However, achieving sustainable performance requires more than operational oversight. It demands strategic leadership, execution discipline, accountability systems, and strong people management skills.

For Inuka Africa, this training was important because of several key realities:

Many leaders focus heavily on monitoring activity without fully owning business outcomes. This program challenged managers to take responsibility for portfolio health, Loan Officer performance, client quality, and overall regional results.

Regional leaders regularly make decisions that directly affect growth, risk exposure, and portfolio quality. The training helped managers strengthen strategic thinking and improve decision-making around client selection, recovery, and balancing risk versus growth.

One of the biggest leadership gaps in many organizations is the failure to follow through consistently. The program emphasized structured routines such as weekly reviews, monthly performance check-ins, and accountability follow-up systems to ensure execution.

Managers explored how to use data more effectively to identify early warning signs, track PAR trends, recovery rates, and productivity levels before challenges escalate.

Regional Managers often operate under intense pressure to deliver targets while managing teams and difficult client situations. The training equipped participants with practical approaches to handling difficult conversations, managing pressure, building trust, and influencing team performance positively.

Throughout the two days, managers engaged in practical discussions, performance analysis, leadership reflections, and action planning exercises focused on real business challenges.

    The managers walked away with:

    • Regional Performance Action Plans
    • Accountability frameworks
    • Structured performance review routines
    • Performance dashboards and scorecards
    • Practical coaching and people management approaches
    • Clearer alignment between leadership behavior and business outcomes
