Job description

Compensation and Benefits: This position includes a monthly salary (based on experience), paid leave days, sick leave days, national holidays, and medical allowance.
Contract Term: One-year contract, with possibility of renewal.
You’ll join a purpose-driven, globally diverse team leading digital innovation in SRHR. At WFD, your work contributes directly to expanding access to essential health information and services for women and marginalized groups worldwide.
The Tech Lead serves as the primary shield and organizer for the development team, managing all technical tasks in ClickUp and ensuring developers can focus on building without distractions. This role requires strong technical understanding, accountability for code quality, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to say “no” to protect team productivity.

Team Protection & Task Management (50%)

  • Shield developers from direct requests, meetings, and interruptions Organize and maintain all technical tasks in ClickUp
  • Create and maintain ClickUp dashboards to measure team velocity
  • Ensure developers have clear, uninterrupted focus time
  • Review and filter incoming requests before they reach developers
  • Manage technical backlog and sprint planning using Agile methodologies
  • Track and report on developer productivity metrics
  • Manage and mentor a team of web developers, providing clear direction, performance feedback, and career development support

Stakeholder Coordination (25%

  • Work with leadership to prioritize technical initiatives Translate business needs into technical requirements
  • Provide monthly dashboard summaries to leadership
  • Say “no” to requests that don’t align with priorities Manage expectations on timelines and deliverables
  • Present velocity metrics and team performance monthly
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate web technologies, frameworks, and tools
  • Assist in recruiting and onboarding developers to strengthen the technical team
  • Provide IT support, educate WFD team about digital security practices, organize technical
  • information (PGP keys, SSH keys) and oversee server management
  • Oversee and follow up the time and deliverables of any external consultant
  • Support custom event tracking needs and ensure smooth data flows between website code bases and analytics platforms

Code Quality & Process Improvement (25%)

  • Ensure adherence to code quality standards, with all web applications meeting Core Web
  • Vitals and adhering to web accessibility requirements
  • Implement and enforce code review processes
  • Monitor technical debt and quality metrics
  • Handle pull request reviews when available
  • Write code during available time
  • Optimize ClickUp workflows for maximum efficiency Establish a clear request intake process
  • Document technical decisions and standards
  • Identify and remove blockers for developers
  • Measure and improve team velocity
  • Oversee testing and QA
  • +5 years of experience working with PostgreSQL/DrizzleORM, TypeScript/Node, React/Next.js/Gatsby.js Tailwind CSS, Shopify and PHP/Laravel, WordPress, Moodle (Strong TypeScript skills are especially valued), Docker.
  • +2 years of experience managing development teams or technical projects
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to protect team focus and push back on unreasonable requests
  • Experience with project management tools (ClickUp preferred)
  • Strong experience with Google Workspace administration, configuration and integrations Experience with analytics tools is desirable (Google Analytics, Looker Studio, etc.)
  • Interest in social justice and/or reproductive rights is a plus

  • Works closely with: Development Team, Leadership Team

Contract Type and Term

This position is offered as a full-time consulting contract.
