  • As an Investment Officer, you will originate, assess, structure and negotiate debt and equity investments across Eastern and Southern Africa in line with BIO Invest’s strategy. You will cover financial institutions, corporates in agriculture and manufacturing, and infrastructure projects including renewable energy and digital infrastructure

Investment Origination and Execution.

  • Develop a strong pipeline of high-quality investment opportunities through proactive origination, field missions and networks.
  • Lead and coordinate initial investment appraisal including screening, structuring and terms negotiation.
  • Lead term sheet negotiations and coordinate legal documentation processes.
  • Analyze financial statements, business plans and financial models.
  • Draft and present investment cases to internal committees and support approval processes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across HQ and the region to align on strategy and execution.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, investors, arrangers, development partners, government and embassies.

Market and Strategy

  • Contribute to pipeline strategy and regional positioning.
  • Represent BIO Invest at industry events and within Belgian development cooperation networks.
  • Provide insights on market trends, sector and macroeconomic developments.
  • Support selected administrative and operational tasks of the Nairobi office.

Team Contribution

  • Mentor and coach junior staff to build talent and grow the team’s skill base.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing across teams.
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics or related field- CFA or CPA accreditation is a plus.
  • 5–6 years of relevant investment experience in emerging markets (DFI, PE, banking or impact investing).
  • Strong track record in originating, structuring, negotiating and executing debt or equity transactions.
  • Deep knowledge of Eastern and Southern African markets with an established regional network.
  • Strong financial modelling, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions under tight deadlines in a multicultural environment.
  • Genuine passion for development finance, impact investing and private sector development in Africa.
  • Permanent work authorization in Kenya is required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%.
