icipe seeks to recruit a Temporary Research Assistant II under the Environmental Health Theme. This is a nationally recruited position tenable in Nairobi at the icipe Duduville campus and Mau Forest Complex, Kenya. The appointment will be for an initial period of nine (9) months, renewable subject to continued position needs, funding for the position, and performance of the staff member.

Overall Purpose of the Job

To provide support in the preparation, collection, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data related to honey production, certification systems, and community engagement. The position requires both office-based and field-based activities, involving close interaction with local beekeepers, producer organizations, and partner institutions.

Specific duties

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • To support the design and implementation of research protocols, questionnaires, and surveys.
  • To conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection in the Mau Forest region (interviews, focus groups, household surveys, etc.).
  • To perform data entry, cleaning, and statistical as well as qualitative analysis.
  • To draft technical notes, reports, and presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • To contribute to stakeholder workshops and capacity-building activities.
  • To assist in logistical arrangements for field missions and training sessions.
  • To ensure that research activities comply with ethical standards and data protection regulations.

Requirements/ qualifications

  • Diploma in Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, Rural Development, Community Development, Sociology, Geography, or related fields.
  • At least 1 year of relevant field experience in data collection and/or community development.
  • Strong skills in qualitative and/or quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R, NVivo, or similar).
  • Strong communication and writing skills in English.Ability and willingness to spend significant time in the field.
  • Familiarity with computer use, including Excel and MS Word.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.Capacity to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
  • Sensitivity to local cultures and community dynamics.
  • Commitment to research ethics, inclusiveness, and sustainable development.

Reporting

This position reports to the Visiting Scientist.
