icipe seeks to recruit a Business Support Officer I (Project Accountant) within the Finance Unit. The position is tenable in Nairobi at the icipe Duduville campus. This is a two-year contract, renewable subject to continued position needs, funding for the position, and performance of the staff member. This is a nationally recruited position. A competitive compensation package will be offered to the right candidate. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Overall Purpose of the Job

The Project Accountant will provide support in accounting tasks to ensure proper financial implementation and management of financial resources for assigned projects in accordance with institutional financial policies and donor requirements.

Specific duties

The successful candidate will undertake tasks that include but are not limited to the following:

  • Support financial management of grants.
  • Ensure compliance with icipe and donor requirements.
  • Assist in partner assessment, budgeting, and onboarding.
  • Monitor budgets, expenditures, and forecasts.
  • Process and track partner disbursements.
  • Review financial reports and maintain documentation.
  • Support donor reporting and invoice preparation.
  • Assist with audits and accountability processes.
  • Maintain accurate financial system records.
  • Other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements/ qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • CPA II or its equivalent
  • A minimum of progressive experience in project accounting for at least 2 years.
  • Relevant experience in auditing or financial management is desirable.

Reporting

This position reports to the Senior Accountant.
