icipe seeks to recruit 4 Research Officer I (Geospatial Data Clerks) under the Integrated Data & Analytics Platform. The positions are tenable in Nairobi at the icipe Duduville campus. This is a twoyear contract, renewable subject to continued position needs, funding for the position, and the staff member’s performance. This is a nationally recruited position. Overall Purpose of the Job

The Geospatial Data Clerks will provide data and modelling support of the Vector Atlas project being implemented by the Integrated Data & Analytics Platform.

  • Collect and collate data (occurrence, bionomic, and insecticide resistance) from various
    sources (e.g. literature, VectorBase, MalariaGEN, Malaria Atlas Project).
  • Cleaning, quality control checks and exploratory data analysing of insecticide resistance (IR)
    dataset.
  • Learn and apply predictive mathematical models, combining ecology`ical niche models and
    machine learning approaches.
  • Combine models through ensemble modelling.
  • Investigate additional technologies and tools for developing innovative data strategies.
  • Support the interns and research associates as needed for their projects.
  • Document the methodology and results for all the modelling experiments.
  • Monitor data pipelines and continuously update and enrich the Vector Atlas data platform.
  • Engage with vector control researchers through knowledge sharing to ensure effective use of
    Vector Atlas data.
  • Liaise with case partners and publication authors to obtain supplementary malaria data not
    publicly available.
  • Perform any other task assigned by the supervisor.
  • BSc in Biochemistry, Statistics, Bioinformatics or any other related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency in the use of R and Python for data analysis and modelling with Ordinary
    Differential Equations/Partial Differential Equations (ODE/PDE).
  • Knowledge of the use of the R statistical software package.
