Role Purpose Statement:

  • Under the general direction and guidance of the Operations Control Centre Manager, the Crew Planner supports in developing and managing crew rosters, ensuring compliance with aviation regulations related to crew duty times, rest requirements, and qualifications. This role focuses on optimizing crew utilization and efficiency while maintaining high standards of operational readiness and crew satisfaction.

Authority

  • Make decisions on risk tolerability when safety risks and security threats are acceptable.

Accountability

  • Maximize schedule utility using all available crew and aircraft resources
  • Minimize client disruptions through creative problem solving, collaboration with internal stakeholders and timely communication.
  • Development and management of crew rosters, considering operational requirements, crew availability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with various departments to forecast crew needs and assist in managing crew assignments.
  • Monitor crew duty times and rest periods to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Support the liaison with the training department to schedule necessary crew training sessions without affecting operational schedules.
  • Utilize crew planning software and systems to assist in optimizing crew utilization.
  • Manage crew records, maintaining accurate and up-to-date information on qualifications, certifications, and availability.
  • Provide support in communicating with crew members regarding their schedules and changes.
  • Developing contingency plans for crew coverage to handle operational challenges.
  • Participate in initiatives to improve crew planning processes and systems.
  • Analyzing data and generating reports on crew utilization and operational impacts.
  • Contribute to the preparation and analysis of periodic performance reports for flight crew.

Know-How:

  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with crew scheduling systems and aviation scheduling software.
  • Management Skills: Effective planning, organizing, and prioritizing skills.
  • Human Relations Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination with crew and various departments.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Knowledge of aviation regulations related to crew duty times, rest requirements, and qualifications.

  • Thinking Environment: Dynamic, requiring adaptability to changing operational needs and schedules.
  • Thinking Challenge: Managing complex schedules and addressing unforeseen operational changes.

  • Works under the guidance of the Crew Planner, with some autonomy in daily tasks.
  • Contributes to efficient crew utilization and operational readiness.
  • Decisions affect crew satisfaction, compliance with regulations, and operational efficiency
  • Education: Minimum of a diploma Flight Operations or a relevant field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience in crew planning or scheduling in an airline or aviation environment.
  • Certifications: Relevant industry certifications. Membership to professional bodies is an added advantage.
