Role Description
This is a hybrid role for a Server Administrator based in Nairobi County, Kenya. The Server Administrator will manage daily server and system administration tasks, monitor server health, and ensure optimal performance and uptime. Responsibilities include troubleshooting server-related issues, providing timely technical support, and managing software installations and updates. The role also requires maintaining and enhancing the operating systems to meet organizational requirements.

Qualifications
- Strong experience administering Ubuntu (24.04 LTS) production servers
- Advanced Linux system administration (CLI, permissions, systemctl, cron)
- Proficiency with Nginx (reverse proxy & virtual hosts)
- Experience managing Postfix + Dovecot mail servers (SMTP/IMAP)
- Solid knowledge of MySQL 8.0 database provisioning, backups & optimization
- Bash scripting & automation (client provisioning, backups, maintenance scripts)
- Experience with Git-based deployments and Node.js build environments (npm)
- SSL management using Let’s Encrypt / Certbot
- System monitoring (disk usage, load averages, uptime) & log management
- Backup verification (DB & file-level) and disaster recovery practices
- Troubleshooting production issues in multi-tenant hosting environments
- Strong understanding of server security, updates, and mail/IP reputation management
Preferred:
- 3+ years managing VPS or hosting infrastructure
- DevOps mindset with strong documentation skills
- Familiarity with modern web app stacks (React, Flutter, Firebase, Supabase)
