Job Summary:
The mechanical fitter will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting of mechanical problems of production machinery and equipment. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding and commitment to safety.
Responsibilities
Installation and Maintenance:
- Install, maintain, and repair components of tobacco machinery and equipment.
- Perform routine mechanical inspections, mechanical online tasks and preventive maintenance to ensure machines operates efficiently and safely.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and repair or replace faulty components as needed.
- Carry out equipment modifications and improvement as directed by the plant engineer.
- Lubrication of the plant machinery regularly
- Maintaining machine center-line e.g tracking of conveyor belts & maintaining winnowers and thresher speeds.
- Operation of lathe machine & milling machine
- Welding and fabrication
- Resolve motor, conveyors & hydraulic problems
- Scaffold erection & Performing work at height tasks
- Inspection and maintenance of shakers, fans, gearbox, classifier & dryers.
- Basket sharpening
- Gutter installation
Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while performing mechanical work, including lockout/tag out LOTOTO procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
- Conduct safety inspections and recommend improvements to mitigate hazards.
Skills
- Craft Certificate/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Plant/production Option) -KNEC.
- At least 2 – 3 Years experience experience in a similar role.
Key Outputs/Deliverables/KPIs
Installation and Maintenance:
- Reduced downtime through vigilant line manning Mechanical Systems:
- Mean Time between Failures (MTBF) for mechanical components or systems.
- Improvement in equipment reliability over time through equipment modification.
Report Writing
- Maintain accurate records of production activities and other issues arising and also prepare reports on the production line and performance and make recommendations for improvement
Safety Compliance
- Reporting number of mechanical safety incidents or near misses.
- bCompliance with safety protocols and regulations during shift work.
