Location: Westlands, Nairobi (On-site)
Our client is a US based Nonprofit Foundation with offices in Nairobi. Recently launched the world’s first free and open source Digital Public Infrastructure for Education (DPI-Ed)
Role Summary:
We’re looking for an experienced Linux System Administrator who will administer key Linux servers and work with administrators at Ministries of Education, Mobile Operators and other entities with own servers to receive, store and ensure high system uptime, data privacy, and sovereignty.
Experience
- Provision, configure & maintain secure Linux servers
- Monitor system performance, backups & uptime
- Manage cloud infrastructure (VMs, auto-scaling, security)
- Automate tasks & support CI/CD deployments
- Respond to system errors, security threats & incidents
Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
- 5+ years managing Linux server systems
- Prior experience with nonprofit or public infrastructure projects is a plus.
- Highly familiar with the Linux command line, editing key configuration files, managing installed packages via apt, snap, etc, writing/modifying shell scripts.
- Experience with Africa’s Ministries eg ICT, Digital Economy (MDE), Telecom Infrastructure, configurations, policies and regulations
- Bonus: Experience with UPS, solar, Puppet/Nagios, or public infrastructure projects
