Role Purpose

The Internal Audit Officer will support the internal audit function by undertaking audit assignments, evaluating internal controls, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, and providing recommendations to strengthen risk management, governance, and operational efficiency within the Sacco.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct financial, operational, and compliance audits in accordance with approved audit plans.
• Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes.
• Review financial records, accounting systems, and operational procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Assess loan appraisal, disbursement, recovery, and credit administration processes.
• Carry out compliance reviews to ensure adherence to Sacco policies, procedures, SASRA regulations, and other statutory requirements.
• Conduct branch and departmental audits and verify safeguarding of Sacco assets.
• Participate in investigations and review systems to detect and prevent fraud.
• Prepare audit reports outlining findings, risks, and recommended corrective actions.
• Follow up on implementation of audit recommendations and corrective measures.

Essential Skills and Key Attributes

• Strong analytical and report writing skills.
• Knowledge of internal audit practices, risk management, and internal control frameworks.
• Understanding of Sacco operations and regulatory requirements.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is mandatory.
• Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or an equivalent qualification is mandatory.
• Professional certifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) will be an added advantage.
• Minimum three (3) years work experience, preferably in a financial institution or Sacco environment.
