Head of Sales & Distribution Job
The Head of Sales & Distribution will lead and execute the company’s sales and distribution strategy to drive revenue growth, strengthen customer relationships, and ensure timely, cost-efficient product delivery. The role will play a critical part in improving customer retention, optimizing route-to-market plans, and enhancing sales team capabilities through data-driven leadership and cross-departmental collaboration.
Budget : KSH. 300k-450k Gross
Roles and Responsibilities:
Sales Leadership & Customer Growth
- Develop and implement strategic sales plans that expand customer base and increase product reach.
- Lead efforts to improve customer retention, re-engage dormant accounts, and acquire new high-potential clients.
- Champion a data-driven culture, using sales analytics and customer insights to guide decisions and refine tactics.
- Set, monitor, and drive performance to achieve volume, value, and profitability targets.
Logistics & Distribution Oversight
- Ensure effective planning, order fulfilment, and distribution efficiency through route optimization and stock alignment.
- Collaborate with production and dispatch teams to deliver the right product, to the right customer, at the right time.
- Monitor delivery times, reduce costs, and minimize product returns or complaints.
Team Management & Development
- Build, lead, and coach a high-performance sales and logistics team focused on accountability and results.
- Define KPIs, review team performance regularly, and implement individual development plans.
- Promote a culture of ownership, innovation, and ethical conduct.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with finance, marketing, and supply chain to align on trade initiatives, pricing, and credit control.
- Lead regular strategy and review meetings to integrate market intelligence and respond to trends.
Customer Relationship Management
- Strengthen relationships with key customers, distributors, and retail partners through regular engagement and feedback mechanisms.
- Manage escalated issues, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and trust.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and industry regulations.
- Prepare and present performance dashboards and insights to senior leadership on a monthly and quarterly basis.
Key Performance Indicators:
- Sales volume and revenue growth by region and channel
- Customer retention and satisfaction rate
- On-time in-full (OTIF) delivery rate
- Sales team performance vs. targets
- Forecast accuracy and demand planning
- Route efficiency and logistics cost management .
Qualifications and Skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing, or Logistics. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- 8+ years in progressive sales leadership, preferably in FMCG or food manufacturing, with at least 3 years managing both sales and logistics teams.
- Proven ability to lead customer-facing teams and deliver results under pressure.
- Strong grasp of CRM systems, route-to-market models, and sales data analysis tools.
- Demonstrated success in turning around sales performance and improving customer loyalty.
