Family Medicine Physician Job
Reporting to the Medical Director and working closely with the Head of Outreach, the Family Medicine Physician will provide comprehensive patient care while contributing to the clinical care and leadership and continuous improvement of outreach health cluster. The successful candidate will lead by example in delivering high-quality care, supporting health system integration, and fostering professional development among clinical teams in the outreach network.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide holistic, patient-centered care for a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions across all age groups.
- Promote preventive care and wellness through patient education, screening, immunization programs, and community health initiatives.
- Perform minor outpatient procedures and initiate appropriate referrals to specialists.
- Ensure evidence-based, guideline-driven management of patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Participate in the interpretation of diagnostic tests and facilitate multidisciplinary care planning with other providers.
- Work closely with the Head of Outreach to support the clinical growth, quality improvement, and operational planning of outreach centres.
- Provide clinical oversight, mentorship, and professional support to medical officers, clinical officers, nurses, and other staff at outreach sites.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of care protocols, clinical pathways, and referral systems that strengthen continuity of care between outreach centres and the main hospital.
- Participate in the evaluation and expansion of service offerings at outreach sites, based on community health needs and institutional strategic priorities.
- Lead or participate in regular clinical review meetings, case audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Model a culture of teamwork, accountability, and ethical clinical practice within the multidisciplinary care teams
- Promote use of electronic medical records and ensure accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of patient documentation.
- Contribute to continuing medical education (CME) programs and training sessions for clinical teams across the outreach network.
The requirements
- Master of Medicine (MMed) in Family Medicine or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB or MBBS).
- Registered and licensed to practice by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- Valid annual practicing license from KMPDC.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position, preferably with exposure to outreach or primary care settings.
- Demonstrated clinical leadership capabilities and experience mentoring junior clinical staff.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, teamwork, and patient-centered care.
