Brief Description
The Environmental / Sustainability Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring Crystal Tours Kenya’s eco-tourism and conservation initiatives. The role ensures the company’s safari and travel operations are environmentally responsible, socially conscious, and aligned with international sustainable tourism standards. This position combines environmental stewardship with community engagement, promoting Crystal Tours Kenya as a leader in sustainable travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement sustainability policies and eco-tourism strategies for all operations.
- Ensure compliance with environmental laws, tourism regulations, and sustainability certifications.
- Monitor and report on the environmental impact of company activities, including carbon footprint and waste management.
- Collaborate with local communities, conservation agencies, and NGOs on wildlife protection and habitat preservation projects.
- Promote responsible tourism practices to staff, clients, and suppliers.
- Integrate sustainable sourcing in procurement, including eco-friendly products and services.
- Conduct training and awareness programs for staff and partners on sustainability best practices.
- Support marketing efforts by providing sustainability content for promotional materials.
- Lead initiatives such as tree planting, beach clean-ups, and wildlife conservation drives.
- Prepare periodic sustainability performance reports for management and stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Tourism, or related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in sustainability, eco-tourism, or conservation (tourism sector preferred).
- Knowledge of sustainable tourism certifications (e.g., Travelife, GSTC) and eco-label standards.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of environmental conservation and sustainable travel principles.
- Excellent project management and community engagement skills.
- Good communication and report-writing abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in MS Office and environmental reporting tools.
- Passion for nature, wildlife, and responsible tourism.
