About the Role
We’re looking for a dedicated and proactive Company Lawyer to serve as our in-house legal advisor. You will lead all legal matters related to contracts, compliance, intellectual property, and global partnerships. This role involves drafting and managing complex agreements, advising on international compliance, and safeguarding our IP and commercial interests across jurisdictions.
This is a high-impact position working closely with the CEO, directors, and management team, supporting BRICStech’s rapid growth and legal integrity.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a range of contracts, including:
- AI, software, and SaaS-related agreements
- Licensing contracts
- Partnership, shareholder, and investor agreements
- Digital product sale agreements
- Independent contractor, consultant, and vendor agreements
- Employment contracts, equity clauses, and NDAs
- Ensure legal compliance with local and international regulations
- Protect the company’s IP through proactive legal strategy and advisory
- Ensure compliance and familiarity with UK and South African legal frameworks and more
- Advise on data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, South Africa POPIA, etc)
- Support cross-border transactions and contract enforcement
- Collaborate with leadership to manage legal risk and negotiate deals
- Maintain organised legal records and documentation
- Advise on business structuring, shareholding, and company policies
- Liaise with external counsel where necessary
Requirements:
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognised institution
- Postgraduate Diploma in Law
- 1–7+ years of legal experience in corporate or commercial law (preferably in tech or startups)
Skills
- Proven experience drafting and negotiating contracts
- Solid understanding of IP law, SaaS licensing, and equity agreements
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken (essential)
- Working understanding of law, especially in tech and data sectors
- Familiarity with international legal frameworks and multi-jurisdictional law
- Ability to simplify legal terms for non-legal stakeholders and support fast-paced business decisions
- Detail-oriented, discreet, confidentiality, and highly accountable
- Self-directed with strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
Preferred Experience
- Experience with startups, AI or software development environments
- Familiarity with investor relations, due diligence, and company share structuring
- Experience managing agreements with clients, buyers, and partners internationally
- Prior exposure to UK, South African, or international legal frameworks
- Experience with cross-border deals, IP ownership, or tech licensing
- Familiarity with global data protection laws and compliance
- Dual qualification (e.g., UK or South Africa) is a plus, but not required
