Our client is an established real estate developer in East Africa. They are looking for a dynamic and hardworking individual with strong leadership and entrepreneurial skills to join as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Key Responsibility
The key role of this position is to provide financial advice and counsel on strategic and operational issues in the Finance Department as well as throughout the company, as well as work with the Finance and Leadership Team to execute the strategy of the Company from a financial perspective. The successful candidate will be expected to continuously offer all stakeholders the most accurate financial position of the firm, as well as assist in offering perspectives as to how the Company can meet, and exceed, its goals and objectives while maintaining a financially sound position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility for the Company Financial Accounting and Reporting, working with the Finance Team.
- Strategy & Business Development, to include the development of short-term to long-term strategy objectives, leading the company in Mergers & Acquisitions, and supporting the various subsidiaries.
- Corporate Finance & Treasury: Role to include ensuring the company and various subsidiaries have the right capital structure, issuances of debt, mezzanine and equity.
- Lead the firm in listing on a recognized global exchange, such as the London Stock Exchange, through an Initial Public Offering. Concurrently lead the firm in listing on the Nairobi Securities Exchange through introduction.
- Lead the firm in Special Projects from time to time, especially product development.
- Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
- Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs. This to include Budgeting, Forecasting and Business Analysis.
- Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the corporation may enter.
- Evaluate the finance department structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as provide individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities of individuals
- Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation.
- Establish credibility throughout the organization and with the Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges.
- Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to other departments within the organization.
- Continual improvement of the budgeting process through guidance of department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets.
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function and performance.
- Participate in the development of the corporation’s plans and programs as a strategic partner.
- Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning.
- Develop credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the CEO, the Board and other managers in performing their responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (MBA preferred).
- Professional accounting designation is a requirement (CA, ACCA, CPA etc.).
- At least 10-years of overall professional experience; ideally 5+ years of broad financial management experience.
- Global markets and operating experience will be a significant added advantage.
- A track record in financial management.
- Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills, which support and enable sound decision making.
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
- A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment: handle multiple tasks simultaneously, with great accuracy, organization, attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to carry out assigned projects to completion with minimal directions.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain solid relationships with staff members, clients, administrators and custodians.
- Knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
- Credit Risk Management Skills.
- Business Modelling Skills.
- Costing and Budgeting skills.
