About the Role
Fusion Labs is looking for a backend developer to help build and scale modern products that solve real-world problems across Africa, starting with a fintech product currently in development. You’ll collaborate closely with the founder and work in a fast-paced, product-focused environment using a modern TypeScript-based stack.

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain GraphQL APIs with Apollo Server
- Model and manage data using Prisma ORM and PostgreSQL
- Implement background processing using Redis and BullMQ
- Collaborate on architecture decisions and scalability strategies
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable TypeScript code
- Integrate with third-party APIs (e.g., payments, notifications)
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving engineering standards
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Node.js + TypeScript
- Strong experience with Apollo Server (GraphQL)
- Solid understanding of Prisma + PostgreSQL
- Experience using Redis + BullMQ for background jobs
- Familiarity with Docker for local development
- Ability to write and maintain tests (Jest or similar)
- Experience working with REST and GraphQL APIs
- Good understanding of code quality, linting, and CI/CD pipelines
Bonus Points
- Experience with payment platforms like M-Pesa, Stripe, etc.
- Understanding of webhooks, retries, and B2C flows
- Experience in startup or fast-moving product environments
- Ability to work independently and communicate asynchronously
- Familiarity with caching strategies and scalable system design
