Agriculture Specialist Job
The Role
We are looking for a qualified and motivated Agricultural Specialist with a minimum of 5 years of experience in agricultural extension, cooperative development, or rural livelihoods programs. The candidate will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing interventions and partnerships in agri-value chains while focusing on broadly supporting smallholder farmers with access to market and inputs.
You will support the harmonizing of agrovet dairy interventions, and farmer extension services, within the implementation of an agrilogistics platform providing first-mile and last-mile support for small holder farmers, agro-processors and rural SMEs. The role will also involve close collaboration with local stakeholders, government agencies, and private sector partners to foster resilient and market-oriented agricultural systems.
Responsibilities
Agrovet & Dairy Value Chain Harmonization
- Improve agrovet services, dairy farming practices, and extension programs
- Strengthen animal health systems, milk quality, and input access
- Forge partnerships between cooperatives, processors, buyers, and agrovets
Farmer Extension & Agrilogistics Integration
- Deliver training and advisory support through our agrilogistics platform
- Promote market linkages, post-harvest handling, and income resilience
- Equip farmers with digital tools for input delivery and market access
Agrilogistics & Market Access Coordination
- Liaise between farmers, rural SMEs, and value chain actors
- Identify logistical gaps and support inclusive supply chain solutions
Cooperative & SME Capacity Building
- Train farmer groups and cooperatives on governance and finance
- Support SMEs in adopting services like cold storage and transport
- Facilitate linkages to financial services
Monitoring, Evaluation & Climate-Smart Agriculture
- Promote agroforestry, soil conservation, and carbon-smart practices
- Track carbon abatement impact and support access to PES schemes
- Advocate for policies that benefit smallholders and climate resilience
Qualifications
- Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Rural Development, or Cooperative Management
- 5+ years of experience in agricultural extension, rural development or related field
- Strong expertise in cooperative development, value chains, and climate-smart agriculture
- Excellent communication and training skills in English and Kiswahili (Ekegusii is a plus)
- Experience working in Kisii or Western Kenya is an advantage
- Proficient in digital tools for farmer engagement (e.g., mobile-based advisory services) is a plus.
