Workplace frustrations can be triggered by many factors.

Sometimes its issues like having to work in a very demanding environment that has strict deadlines and long working hours. This translates to you not being able to have any work-life balance.

In other cases, it’s working for a boss that is not easy to get or colleagues that do not understand the value of working in a team.

This makes you work in a toxic environment and eventually you start becoming frustrated and irritable.

Whatever the case, you need to learn how to deal with and manage these frustration triggers in order to be able to have a fulfilling career.

So today let us look at these 3 very effective techniques you can always use to overcome the frustrations you are currently experiencing at your place of work…

  1. Avoid giving reactions

So your boss or colleagues or the pile of work on your desk is causing you to be frustrated, don’t be tempted to react.

A reaction normally elicits negative outcomes; in the sense that you may say or do something in a state of anger and end up regretting it later.

Instead of reacting, learn how to RESPOND.

If someone has upset you at work and you are burning to insult or do something that will sabotage them, think twice.

Think of the consequences; you might lose your job or work in a place where no one supports you.

If you need to take a walk or get out of that environment to cool off, do so and then only make a sound and rational decision when you are calm.

  1. Remain objective regardless of the situation

Frustration is an emotion that can cause you to do or say something you did not mean.

It can also blur the truth and make you reason in a very one-sided manner; causing you to reason irrationally.

I have always said that the most emotionally intelligent people know how to manage their emotions no matter the situation.

Being frustrated and being self-aware that you are not in the best place to communicate your feelings will help you make sound decisions.

This means you will also argue out things objectively and not because you are being fueled by frustrations.

So start learning how to take a step back and reason with objectivity and not emotionally.

  1. Always think 5 steps ahead

In a state of frustration and anger, it’s possible to do or say something you probably do not mean.

And in the heat of the moment, you will not realize the mistake you have made until it’s too late.

I know of a person who had a bad boss and ended up insulting them and speaking ill of their company and eventually quit without thinking twice.

3 years later, he is still looking for another job because his former boss will not give him a good recommendation.

When potential employers do a background check on him, all they receive is negative feedback and a person who lacks respect for his seniors and company.

Is that where you want to be simply because you are frustrated?

I highly doubt.

The here and now of your frustrations should not determine how your career will turn out.

Yes you may want to act out your frustrations, but think of the ripple effect of your actions; the consequences that will follow.

You will then see, it’s really not worth it.

At this point, it is better to remain silent and be thought of a fool than to speak and ruin your entire career.

Have I helped?

The next time someone frustrates you in the work place or your job becomes too heavy, try these 3 techniques.

Always purpose to do what’s best for your career. Do not allow a brief moment of frustration to ruin what you spend most of your life building.
