Summary: Senior Lecturer – Midwifery and Obstetric Nursing Job AMIU. Responsible for teaching and supervising students in midwifery and obstetric nursing, developing academic content, conducting research, and supporting clinical training. Requires a relevant Master’s or PhD in Nursing/Midwifery, professional registration, teaching experience, and strong research skills. The role is based in Nairobi with duties performed on-site.

Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions in the assigned area of expertise/teaching.
  • Develop and update teaching materials, including digital content.
  • Assess and grade students’ assignments, exams, and projects while providing constructive feedback.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate students in their academic projects and research or any other areas.
  • Apply and utilize modern teaching methods, including e-learning tools and student centered approaches.
  • Engage in all departmental teaching activities including; timetabling, course-loading and moderation of exams, supervision and marking of exams and entry.
  • Academic leadership of Departmental programs

Curriculum Development

  • Participate in designing and review of course curricula to align with academic standards and market needs.
  • Identify programs that can be developed by the department and spearhead curriculum development Research, Innovation and Scholarship
  • Conduct individual or collaborative research in the field of expertise for personal and departmental growth.
  • Continuously publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, seminars or conferences.
  • Identify and participate in seeking research grants and other funding opportunities to support academic projects.
  • Identify and engage in fund-raising activities in the department

Academic Administration

  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other institutional activities.
  • Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base. • Providing support to students and other colleagues
  • Contribute to program accreditation processes and quality assurance systems.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities, such as student advising and exam coordination.
  • Student research work/project /thesis/dissertation supervision and mentoring
  • Supervise student and junior staff research activities.

Community Engagement and Professional Development

  • Collaborate with external organizations, industries, and the community to enhance knowledge sharing.
  • Engage in professional development activities, such as attending workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Represent the institution in public forums, professional bodies, and academic networks.
  • Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.
  • Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.

Marketing

Participate in university and departmental marketing activities

Engage in any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of Department/and/or line supervisor on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, from time to time including but not limited to:

  • Work as part of the wider team to support other people when called upon.
  • Support the University and its leadership
  • Continue with individual personal development activities
  • Engage actively in the performance review process
  • Promote a positive working environment for everyone
  • PhD in Nursing or 3 years of experience in the academia or industry with relevant publication points
  • Master of Science in Nursing – Midwifery and Obstetric Nursing
  • Evidence of participation in research activities.
  • Must hold a valid practice license
  • Must be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Demonstrate high level of integrity.

Experience

  • At least 3 years of teaching in nursing training
  • At least 2 years’ experience in clinical practice
  • Experience in curriculum development and evaluation
  • Experience in supporting a virtual learning environment
