4 Effective Ways To Market Yourself And Get That Job

By Selipha Kihagi

Apart from having a professional CV, getting a job that you really want will require that you are relentless and are visible to employers. Being visible means that potential employers can find you with ease and tell you are qualified in a particular field without even having to tell them directly.

This helps a job seeker to find open jobs with ease and sometimes prompt recruiters to reach out whenever they have jobs. And especially now when employers are looking online to hunt for potential employees, making sure that you can be spotted at one click of a button will be what you need in your job search.

So how do you effectively market yourself?

1. Have a professional and functional online profile

Social media sites are at the top of the list when it comes to marketing yourself for future jobs. Make sure that your Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn profiles have the necessary information needed by potential employers and recruiters. You should also ensure that these sites communicate the same information about you; that the information you are providing is consistent across the platforms.

Why? You do not want a recruiter finding that on LinkedIn you are an Accountant for company B but you are self-employed on your Facebook page. This makes recruiters unsure of whom you are as an individual. And aside from these social networking sites, you can also create a personal page on About.Me site with professional information about you and add the link to your social media platforms.

2.Go out and meet people

Being available online is not enough to get you the job, you will need to go an extra mile to meet potential employers one on one. Among the best ways in which to get a job, networking has been said to be the most effective. Employers are more inclined to hire people they have met and interacted with that those they have never met before and only know their qualifications through their CV. Make a point of attending events every now and then and telling people you meet that you are job searching.

3. Volunteer

If you put yourself up for volunteer services, then you make yourself noticeable and this could be your gateway to that perfect job. Helping out in institutions puts you out as someone who is dedicated in their job, which is a good thing when potential employers are concerned.

So, if you have already gone out to meet people and have a great online profile, it might be time to try out volunteering when you have the time.

4. Write to employers directly

Talking to employers is the best way to show your qualifications, but sometimes you might not manage to meet them one-on-one and this is where the need to write to them comes in. With the rise of LinkedIn as a perfect professional platform, almost every employer can be found on the site. You can contact the employers by sending them a message and inquiring about any upcoming positions.

If you find their email address, then that becomes even better. However, make sure you approach this in a polite and professional manner so you do not end up giving the wrong impression about yourself.

To become successful in your job hunt, you may want to go an extra mile to make yourself noticeable. Don’t just sit around and blast out your CV to any employer or recruiter you come across, try to establish a relationship first. This will be most valued.
