Our client is an established business based in Tanzania offering a range of beverage drinks. They are looking to hire a Head of Packaging to lead their packaging department within a manufacturing environment. This pivotal role involves managing packaging technology and systems, optimizing processes for efficiency and sustainability, and ensuring product quality. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating packaging schedules, leading a skilled team, and implementing best practices to drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Packaging Technology and Systems:

• Lead and manage the packaging department, ensuring efficient operation of all packaging equipment and systems.
• Stay up-to-date with advancements in packaging technology and recommend improvements or upgrades as necessary.
• Troubleshoot and resolve packaging equipment issues to minimize downtime.

Process Optimization:

• Develop and implement packaging processes that maximize efficiency while maintaining product quality.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for process improvement and cost reduction.
• Implement best practices for waste reduction and sustainability in packaging.
• Bench mark processes, activities and products with the best in class; adopting world class manufacturing practices.
• In liaison with the leadership team, set and review departmental Budgets, Objectives, Goals and SOP’s.
• Create ,Implement, Optimize and Monitor departmental key performance indicators (KPIs) with the aim of achieving overall department goals.
• Develop SOP’s – Standard Operating Procedures for the departmental procedures and workflows.

Planning and Scheduling:

• Develop production schedules and ensure timely delivery of products.
• Coordinate with production, logistics, and quality control departments to align packaging schedules with overall production goals.
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate packaging materials are available.

Quality Assurance:

• Establish and maintain quality control procedures for packaging, ensuring products meet quality and safety standards.
• Conduct regular inspections and testing of packaging materials and processes.
• Investigate and address packaging-related quality issues.

Team Leadership:

• Build and lead a skilled packaging team, providing training and development opportunities.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the department.

Machine Procedures:

• Ensure all packaging equipment is operated safely and in compliance with standard operating procedures.
• Develop and maintain machine maintenance schedules and coordinate repairs and maintenance activities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field; Professional qualifications preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in packaging management in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of packaging technology, systems, and machinery.
• Exceptional planning and scheduling skills.
• Proficiency in quality control procedures and standards.
• Effective leadership and team management abilities.
• Familiarity with sustainability and waste reduction practices in packaging.
