Wilson had been job-hunting for more than 3 months when he reached his breaking point. He had made it to the final round of interviews at 3 different companies, only to get the subtle rejection emails each time.

We sat down with Wilson to talk about her journey, what changed, and how interview coaching made the difference.

1. What made you decide to try interview coaching?

If I am being totally honest, it is desperation. I had been feeling exhausted applying to several companies and never getting the call. My CV got me through the door, I will admit, but they kept turning me down.

Something about how I was presenting myself in person was just not clicking. A friend of mine had worked with an interview coach before her last job and could not stop talking about it. So, I figured I would give you guys a call as I had nothing to lose.

2. What was your biggest challenge before coaching?

I think I was trying too hard to sound impressive. I would overthink every answer before giving it, and I would end up rambling or giving vague answers.

And behavioral questions? Forget it. I’d freeze up trying to think of the “perfect” example and end up with these long, boring stories that went nowhere.

3. What surprised you most about the coaching process?

I really loved how practical it was. I thought they would focus more on theory, and someone would just give me the right answers.

But instead, we did mock interviews that felt incredibly real. My coach would ask me tough questions, and then we’d actually pause and break down what worked and what didn’t.

She helped me see patterns I didn’t even realize I had.

4. What would you say to someone who’s on the fence about getting coaching?

If you are being called to interviews but not getting any job offers, you need to change something really fast. Because it is probably not your qualifications that need to be revised. You just need someone to help you translate what’s on paper into something that makes people want to work with you.

For me, it wasn’t about becoming a different person or faking anything. It was about learning to communicate my experience in a way that resonated. Best investment I made in my career, hands down.
