Tell us about yourself. What is your professional qualification?

My name is Lameck Orina sales & marketing professional with over 8 years of experience (4 years in managerial position)working in banking financial service, construction equipment industry, and concrete equipment leasing industry.

How long have you been looking for a job?

I had been actively looking for a job for 7 months because the company I was working for was shut down because of the pandemic.

What has your job search experience been like?

Initially, things were tough because most of my applications were unsuccessful. CSS had helped me secure my first job so I checked the website for the available opportunities. For the first three months, I was not considered but I still kept checking the website where I came across the role of Showroom Sales Executive which I applied for and patiently waited for the feedback.

Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?

Yes. I applied for several openings without positive responses and for the few that I got the invites for instance the field sales manager in the Horticulture industry; I was disqualified because I didn’t have the relevant experience.

How were the application and interview process?

The process was smooth, the interviewer was friendly and she knew what she was looking for by asking questions that were very relevant to the job and I was given feedback within a reasonable time.

Did you think you would get the job?

Yes, I knew that the job was mine because I had met the 80% of the requirements in the job description. I had taken enough time to do a thorough search to understand what the employer was looking for and I gave my best during the Interview.

What do you think employers look for or check when selecting suitable candidates?

I think the experience matters most and employers want professionals who can represent the company in the best way possible.

The first impression is essential, time management and how you communicate during and after the interview play a crucial role.

The most important thing is never to give up. Keep reviewing and updating your CV to ensure it reflects what you are looking for and apply for the jobs that you meet the requirements.
