Your Career Success Depends On These 5 Things

By Perminus Wainaina

It’s about time your career took off!

In Kenya today, everyone wants to get a job that pays them well, start a business that picks up after a short time while others want to take up projects that bring quick expected results.

But unfortunately, not everyone is willing to do what it takes to achieve this success.

You will agree with me that in order for you to get to that position you are currently holding, you had to go an extra mile when looking for a job and even more effort during the interviews session.

If you are not clear on what you want, opportunities you will not see the opportunities around you.

The most important thing now is to learn how to let go of anything that is holding you back from achieving only the best in your career.

Feeling challenged to transform your career now?

If so, let’s look at some of the things you need to let go of…

1. Let go of the need to always be right

This is a human weakness and unless you realize this early enough, you will never move an inch from where you career is currently.

You see, if you are always right about all the new projects in the department, always right about which clients to pursue and which ones to let go or you are the one with the right idea in the boardroom, then you will never allow yourself enough room to experience new opportunities or learn new ideas from others.

Always ask yourself, “Will this idea benefit the whole organization? Am I acting out of sheer selfishness?”

2. Let go of holding yourself back

This is a major symptom of self-doubt.

You cannot keep second-guessing yourself every time you have to make a bold step in your career.

Opportunities that are meant for you will always be grabbed by others leaving you in the same spot day in day out. And I can only imagine how disappointing this can feel.

Making a decision to stop holding yourself back will open new avenues and a lot of opportunities for your career break through.

Take that public speaking training you have always wanted to take, regain your self-confidence and get your life back on track.

After all, no one will ever be able to do this for you if you won’t take the first step

3. Let go of that job you hate or feel uncomfortable doing

Part of experiencing a great career breakthrough is being able to feel satisfied from the work you wake up for each morning.

If you are feeling like a robot, doing the same work day in day out, no room for growth at your current work place, no financial growth as well or just a job that you feel can be done better by someone else, then letting go is what is standing between you and success.

Almost half of your life is spent at the office.

Spending all that time being bitter and regretful knowing that you can do better is the worst form of disservice.

Seek career advice and welcome a great career breakthrough that will amaze you all the way.

4. Let go of the need to always remain in control

Nobody likes a control freak.

This is definitely not one of the character traits that successful people in Kenya like Bob Collymore of safaricom, James Mwangi of Equity Bank or even Jack Ma of Alibaba possess.

Just research about their career profile and you will be surprised.

The feeling to always remain in control is a result of being attached to an outcome you’re sure is best for you, as if you always know what’s best and as cold as this may sound.

When you trust that you’re okay no matter what circumstances come your way, you don’t need to micro-manage the whole universe.

5. Finally, let go of all the stressful things you have no control over

Did you know that people who are truly successful are almost never stressed out?

Just identify one around your circles and question them. You will be surprised.

This is actually the real reason why have succeeded in life – because they haven’t permitted the small things in life to influence them or stress them out.

So, back to your case…

Are the things you’re stressed about worth all the energy you’re giving them? Is there anything you can do to change these circumstances?

Letting go of stress, negativity, and pain excites me because it allows me to focus on the important things in my life and career. The same is true for you

You have what it takes…

The success of your career greatly depends on your willingness let go of some things that don’t really matter and redirecting this energy to those that matter most.

Are you ready to do that?
