Circular Economy Trainers delivering training sessions on gender-responsive circular economy principles, requiring a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field with demonstrated experience in training or facilitation, in an environmental sustainability environment, on-site role in Nairobi.

  • Each trainer will be responsible for delivering sixteen (16) training sessions, with two (2) sessions conducted in each assigned county. Each session will comprise five (5) contact hours. The training will focus on building participants’ understanding of gender-responsive circular economy principles and strengthening their ability to apply relevant practices and business approaches within their enterprises and communities.
  • Prepare and deliver the assigned circular economy training sessions in accordance with the approved curriculum and programme schedule. 
  • Facilitate practical learning on circular economy principles, circular business models, resource efficiency, waste-to-value opportunities, sustainability, and relevant environmental governance and compliance requirements. 
  • Apply the training content to the three priority waste streams, specifically plastic waste, organic waste and textile waste, using relevant local examples and business cases. 
  • Use participatory and experiential methods, including demonstrations, practical exercises, case studies, group problem-solving, peer learning and field-based activities, as appropriate to the training context. 
  • Adapt delivery to the needs and circumstances of MSMEs, community groups and informalsector actors, while ensuring meaningful participation of women, youth and other groups that may face barriers to participation. 
  • Administer pre- and post-training assessments and use the results to assess learning gains and participants’ ability to apply the knowledge acquired. 
  • Maintain accurate training records and submit session reports, assessment results, lessons learned and other required documentation within the agreed timelines. 

Training Content 

  • The approved Gender-Responsive Circular Economy Curriculum will cover the following areas: 
  • Circular economy principles and the business case for transitioning from linear to circular models. 
  • Resource efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable use of water and energy. 
  • Circular business models and opportunities for value addition. 
  • Value-chain-specific practices in plastic waste, organic waste, and textile waste. 
  • Environmental governance and regulatory compliance, including relevant requirements under the Sustainable Waste Management Act, 2022, Extended Producer Responsibility Regulations, 2024, NEMA, and KEBS. 
  • Product development, human-centered design, prototyping and testing of circular solutions, where relevant.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in environment, environmental science, natural resource management, sustainability, waste management or another relevant field.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in training, facilitation, or adult learning.
  • A strong understanding of environmental sustainability and gender-responsive, gender responsive circular economy principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering practical and interactive training to MSMEs, communities, informal-sector actors, or other adult learners.
  • Experience applying participatory, experiential, and problem-based learning approaches.
  • Experience administering or using pre- and post-training assessments or other learning assessment tools.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
