Gross Salary: Ksh 60,000-70,000,

Our client is a well-established educational institution committed to delivering holistic learning while upholding high standards of governance, accountability, and financial transparency. They are looking to hire a detail-oriented and highly organized Accountant to support day-to-day financial operations, reporting, and compliance activities. This role is ideal for a professional with a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and statutory requirements who is comfortable working with financial data, systems, and cross-functional teams.

  • Maintain accurate day-to-day accounting records using QuickBooks
  • Oversee the Accounts Assistant and ensure quality of work
  • Prepare timely financial reports and ensure compliance with legal and internal requirements
  • Process payments in line with approved procedures and supporting documentation
  • Support procurement processes and verify purchase documentation
  • Maintain accounts payable and receivable ledgers, including invoicing and collections
  • Prepare and process payroll, including statutory deductions
  • Oversee Mpesa, bank, and cash management, including reconciliations
  • Ensure proper filing and documentation of all financial records
  • Implement and monitor internal financial controls to mitigate risk
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
  • Manage grants and donations tracking, reporting, and compliance
  • Stay updated on financial regulations and best practices
  • Promote financial accountability and transparency across the organization
  • Verify and post vendor invoices accurately in QuickBooks
  • Generate school fees invoices and follow up on collections
  • Issue receipts for all income received
  • Process payroll and ensure accuracy of deductions (PAYE, NSSF, SHA, NITA, WHT, MRI, etc.)
  • Prepare and submit statutory returns on time
  • Conduct monthly bank and Mpesa reconciliations by the 10th of each month
  • Perform weekly cash reconciliations with the Accounts Assistant
  • Maintain fixed assets register and update income schedules
  • Record petty cash transactions and reconcile regularly
  • Prepare audit schedules and support annual audit processes
  • Ensure accurate stock reconciliation and supplier payments
  • Respond to financial queries from stakeholders
  • Archive financial records in line with retention policies
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve financial processes
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA (K) or equivalent professional qualification preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in an education or non-profit environment
  • Proficiency in accounting systems (QuickBooks preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of Kenyan tax and statutory requirements
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Integrity and accountability in financial management

Additional Expectations

  • Contribute to financial planning and strategic decision-making
  • Support the smooth running of the Finance and Administration office
  • Participate in staff training and school initiatives where required
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Management
