How My CV Sold Me Out To Get My Dream Job

It can be frustrating to send applications without getting feedback. Some of the factors that determine if you will be invited for an interview include your experience, skills, and time factor.

Do you apply for any job that comes on your way? Do you send your application immediately or do you wait for the deadline? Do you tailor your CV to fit the role or do you use a generic CV?

For Joseph Mwenda, his job search was not a walk in the park because most of his applications seemed to have fallen

into a black hole.

After registering his CV on the CSS database, he got an alert of the Business Development Executive we had advertised for our client, Tangazo Letu. After applying for it, his CV sold him out and his confidence made him stand out in the interview.

I caught up with him to understand his job search journey and a few lessons you can pick from him.

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Joseph Mwenda, a resourceful sales professional with over 7 years of experience working in a technology company, the dairy sector, the microfinance industry, and the logistics industry. I have demonstrated sales prowess and proven leadership and management skills with great salesmanship.

How long had you been looking for a job?

I had been looking for a job for 7 months and my aim was to change the work environment and advance in my career.

What has your job search experience been like?

It was a tiresome experience that required patience but I was motivated when I received interview invites.

Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?

Yes, sending many applications without any feedback. Sometimes I was lucky to get the interviews but I would get regret messages after the interview and that would discourage me because I didn’t know what I was doing wrong.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

Through the online platform, in the process of checking the job boards, I came across a testimonial that was posted on the CSS website. That intrigued me to find out more about their services and I landed on the job search page. After registering my CV I got the job updates related to my field.

How were the application and interview process?

For me, it was a great experience being interviewed by experts before going to the client stage. This gave me confidence even when meeting the employers for the second interview.

Did you think you would get the job?

Initially, I didn’t know because I had been applying for many jobs without being considered. Even with CSS, I thought it would be the same experience but I was proven wrong when I got the job.

What do you think employers look for or check when selecting suitable candidates?

The first thing that employers receive is your CV. They check if your experience and skills match what they are looking for.  With a good resume, you can sell yourself even if you meet the employer and that’s why it’s worth investing in professional CV writing services to help you come up with a world-class resume.

Many professionals continue to look for jobs during this tough time. What is your advice to them?

To succeed in the job search, it is important to create the first good impression and you can do so by creating a customised CV. Consider seeking Corporate Staffing Services to help you in the job search journey from creating a marketing tool, preparing for an interview, and developing necessary skills through training services that will help you advance your career.
