How LinkedIn Led Me To Get A Job Through CSS

It is said that job searching is a job on its own – a job that only pays when you finally land the job you are targeting.

When Pius Mwenda lost his job after the company he was working for closed down, he knew he could not afford to stop looking for a job – no matter how long it took. Without a source of income, he looked for job opportunities everywhere.

In his job search journey, he came across a digital marketing job we advertised for our client, Medex East Africa Ltd. This led him to the CSS website where he applied and was successful.

His is a story of working towards his goal through persistence.

Here is his journey:

How long have you been looking for a job?

I’ve been looking for a job for the last 3 months, and I think the pandemic is the main reason. Many businesses had to close down. And that affected the marketing agency I was working for at the time.

I went from having a salary to literally nothing.

What has your job search experience been like?

You know the popular phrase in Kenya (kutafuta kazi ni Kazi pia)? Well, that is quite true.

Effective planning is critical for your job search. Mastering the Process of searching and applying for jobs can help you find, and ultimately acquire, the best job opportunities.

While on my job search, I had to network regularly, maintain a strong digital presence in LinkedIn, visiting company websites and customizing my application, and Improving my skills.

Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?

The first problem is always finding the opportunity in the first place! Many jobs are not advertised, so you need to get to know your market and where Jobs are posted. Some go via recruitment agencies like I did on Corporate staffing and created my account to get job alerts via my Email.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

First I saw about Corporate Staffing via LinkedIn. A job vacancy was shared online by one of my networks which led me to their website. I applied for the job and they called me for an Interview.

How was the application and interview process?

The application process was very smooth and clear. After checking out the Job description of the available vacancies, I sent my updated CV and my cover letter to Corporate staffing. They called me for the 1st Interview to get to know about me and the skills I had indicated on my  CV.

Later, they sent me to the employer for the second Interview.

Did you think you would get the job?

Well, honestly no.

You cannot be sure since you applied with other job seekers. The best thing is to put your best foot forward in the Interviews, dress well and Have the skills and experience to do the job and deliver great results

Many professionals continue to look for jobs. What is your advice to them?

Job hunting involves more than searching for open positions and sending CVs. You also need to make sure you are a good fit for the job. You need to be of value and catch the hiring manager’s attention. And be well-prepared to Answer Interview Questions.
