Role Overview
The Finance Intern will support the finance department in daily accounting, cost tracking, and financial reporting activities. This role involves working closely with operations, field and procurement teams to ensure accurate financial documentation and efficient cost control across transport operations.
This position is ideal for a motivated individual seeking practical experience in finance within the logistics and transport industry.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accounts Payable & Receivable Support
- Assist in processing supplier invoices (admin, port, shipping line services etc).
- Validate invoices against delivery notes, purchase orders.
- Support customer invoicing and receipt posting.
- Maintain proper filing and documentation of transactions.
2. Reconciliations
- Assist in preparing and reviewing bank and petty cash reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial records.
- Identify and report discrepancies for timely resolution.
- Reconcile supplier and bank statements to ensure accuracy.
- Assist with customer account reconciliations.
3. Data Entry & Records Management
- Enter accounting data into the accounting system accurately.
- Maintain digital and physical financial records (invoices, petty cash requisitions, accountabilities, payment vouchers receipts, letters etc).
- Update spreadsheets and internal trackers (expenses, receivables etc).
4. Compliance & Internal Controls
- Support adherence to finance procedures and audit requirements.
- Assist in preparing documentation for internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with finance policies and statutory requirements.
Academic Qualifications
- Should have completed a degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field within the last Three (3) years at the time of application.
Technical Skills
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, formulas, pivot tables preferred).
- Familiarity with ERP systems or accounting software (Wingu Box, QuickBooks, Sage, SAP etc).
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
Soft Skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Customer service oriented.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Organizational and time-management skills.
What the Intern Will Learn
- Real-world experience in logistics cost analysis.
- Hands-on exposure to financial reconciliations and reporting.
- Working with ERP software and transport management systems.
- Understanding job costing.
- Practical experience with AP/AR processes in a work environment.
