Job Description
The Welder – Self Propelled Harvester (SPH/Valiant) is responsible for proper and effective maintenance of the Self-Propelled Harvester in the Estate to ensure efficiency, highest safety standards and quality of tea and productivity is maximized. The objective of the role is to increase availability and reliability of SPH, minimize downtime and efficiency in utilization of the machines.
Key Responsibilities
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
- Identify materials and determine the appropriate filler material type, size and quantities
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment and method based on job requirements
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documents and specifications
- Carry out pre-weld preparation and controls while adhering to safety standards
- Adherence to safety protocols and hot work permit requirements
- Perform specific design fabrications and general repair welding, including load-bearing structures, pressurized structures/vessels, machinery and other components, including welding pieces and filling gaps as required
- Fit and assemble metal parts, tools and sub-assemblies, including welding and brazing components
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Service and maintain welding equipment, accessories, hand tools and portable tools
- Deliver quality welds while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
- Maintain an organized work area and ensure proper housekeeping
- Provide on-the-job training and guidance to junior welders
- Ensure compliance with applicable local and national Engineering codes and regulations
- Complete assigned work within set deadlines and deliverables
Qualifications
- Certificate in Mechanical Engineering
- Holder of Government Trade Test in welding (electric and/or gas)
- 3 Years’ relevant experience
- Certificate in auto electrician and MVM will be an added advantage
- Multiskilled driver (Classes B, C, E, G) will be an added advantage.
