CAK/HR/08/27/2025: SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER- CASB 11/JG“H”- 1 POSITION TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT-PERMANENT & PENSIONABLE

The entry and training grade for this cadre.

Basic Salary- Ksh. 27,900
House Allowance Ksh. 4,500 Commuter Allowance Ksh. 4,000

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Hansard Reporter, duties and responsibilities will entail:

  • Coordinating the services of sign language interpretation within the County Assembly.
  • Serving as a liaison between County Assembly and the deaf community.
  • Plan for procurement matters with respect to sign language needs
  • helping hearing impaired individuals understand the proceedings of the plenaries and committees of the Assembly;
  • facilitating communication with the deaf through sign language;
  • serve as a liaison between County Assembly and the deaf community;
  • providing accurate accounts of proceedings; and
  • preparing necessary reports.
  • Providing a full range of interpreting/transliterating services for deaf/hard of hearing (HoH) employees;
  • Utilize skill in a variety of signed languages (like American Sign Language (ASL), Contact Sign, and Conceptually Accurate Signed English, CASE) to facilitate communication;
  • Interpret any conversation, meeting, and training session, and interview or other requested event, including providing oral interpreting to employees who do not use sign language;
  • Responsible for interpreting in a variety of communication modes during Assembly-wide work related events such as programs, conferences, and appraisals, and counselling sessions, etc. for specific training needs and benefits;
  • Responsible for coordinating all incoming customer interpreting service requests through emails nd phone calls;
  • Utilize MS Outlook calendar to schedule blocks of time for interpreting services following customer requirements and team availability;
  • Enlighten supervisors and staff on Deaf Culture and interpreter services; and
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to improve on services to Assembly customers.

Requirement for appointment

For appointment to this grade a candidate must have:

  • Served as a sign language interpreter II for a minimum period of three years; OR
  • Diploma in sign language/special needs from a recognized institution
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C- or its equivalent qualification;
  • Proficiency in computer applications; and
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSITIONS

  • A detailed Curriculum Vitae indicating current and previous employers, positions held, level of education, notice period required to take up appointment and names of at least three professional referees;

  • Copy of National Identification Card or Passport.

  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations;
  • Valid Clearance Certificate from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
  • Valid Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA);
  • Current Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC); and
  • Current Report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
