Senior Software Engineer – Full Stack Job Peach Payments Nairobi, Kenya
Why This Role Exists
- In the Payouts team, we enable money to move reliably from Peach Payments to merchants, beneficiaries, and partners across Africa. Our portfolio covers the products and services that power payouts – including initiation and orchestration of disbursements, status tracking and reconciliation, payout configuration and APIs for merchant integration, and the operational tooling that keeps payouts secure, compliant, and observable at scale.
- This team maintains and evolves existing payout capabilities while building new features to support merchant needs and new business opportunities. As a Senior Engineer, you will own complex work end-to-end and help less senior engineers grow through pairing, design reviews, and clear technical guidance.

- Languages: TypeScript and Python
- Infrastructure: AWS (primarily Lambda, API Gateway, S3 and Serverless)
- Databases: PostgreSQL,DynamoDB, MySQL, MongoDB
- Tools: Jira, Confluence, Git, Postman, Cypress
- AI tools: Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and similar AI-assisted development tools
- CI/CD & Automation: GitLab Pipelines
- Monitoring: Grafana / Sentry / Datadog
Role expectations
- Design, build, and ship new Payouts features, and improve existing ones, across the full stack
- Translate technical requirements into robust solutions alongside the team across our payments product portfolio
- Ensure secure, scalable, and compliant payout processing in our backend and integrations
- Troubleshoot and debug Payouts issues effectively in production
- Independently diagnose incidents and propose fixes using logs, monitoring, and code analysis
- Own complex initiatives from design through delivery, with minimal oversight
- Mentor and support less senior engineers through pairing, code review, and coaching so the team levels up together
- Use AI development tools thoughtfully to accelerate delivery while maintaining high code quality, security, and ownership of the outcome
Competencies: What You Bring
Technical Expertise:
- 7+ years of experience in cloud-based software engineering (strong backend; comfortable across the full stack)
- Strong experience with TypeScript and Python
- AWS experience (primarily Lambda, API Gateway, and Serverless)
- Database experience (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB)
- Comfortable using AI coding tools (e.g. Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT) to boost productivity without sacrificing judgement, testing, or security
- Bonus: experience with payments or financial disbursements

- Designs elegant, scalable solutions for new features
- Iteratively improves existing systems toward best practices and modern standards
- Takes initiative, owns projects end-to-end, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-scale environment
- Comfortable leading complex, ambiguous work independently while keeping stakeholders informed

- Actively helps less senior team members develop their skills through clear feedback, pairing, and knowledge sharing
- Works well in a remote/hybrid team, with strong written and verbal English
