Production Technician – 6HI Mill monitoring mill operations and troubleshooting equipment abnormalities, requiring a Diploma in Mechanical or Production Engineering with 3+ years technical experience and 2+ years in cold rolling or metal processing, in a steel processing/manufacturing environment, on-site role.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Process Control

• Monitor 6HI Mill operations and process parameters to maintain stable production within approved operating limits.
• Coordinate equipment set-up, calibration and process adjustments in accordance with production requirements and product specifications.
• Review process conditions, alarms and operating trends and take appropriate action within assigned authority.
• Support mill start-up, shutdown, product changeovers and recovery from abnormal operating conditions.

Technical Troubleshooting & Equipment Reliability

• Troubleshoot operational and equipment abnormalities and coordinate technical interventions with Maintenance and Engineering teams.
• Support fault diagnosis, machine adjustments and restoration of equipment following breakdowns or process interruptions.
• Monitor equipment condition and recurring operational losses and provide technical information to support corrective actions.
• Coordinate planned maintenance, inspections and breakdown interventions within the assigned shift.

Quality & Process Compliance

• Monitor rolling parameters and product quality against approved specifications and process standards.
• Verify completion of process checks, measurements and traceability requirements.
• Support containment and resolution of product quality deviations and recurring defects.
• Maintain accurate technical, quality and process-performance records.

Operator Guidance & Team Support

• Provide technical guidance to Operators on equipment operation, process parameters and safe work practices.
• Support onboarding, coaching and capability development of production operators.
• Promote adherence to approved SOPs, work instructions and operational standards.
• Support effective shift handovers and communication of operational priorities.

Safety, Health, Environment & Compliance

• Promote compliance with HSEQ requirements, LOTOTO requirements and machine safety standards.
• Monitor adherence to PPE, guarding, material handling and safe operating requirements.
• Report and follow up on hazards, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
• Maintain workplace organisation and housekeeping standards in line with 6S requirements.

Continuous Improvement

• Participate in TPM, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Kaizen and Operational Excellence initiatives.
• Support implementation of approved improvement actions.
• Contribute to initiatives that improve productivity, quality, safety and equipment reliability.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or an equivalent technical discipline.
• Minimum three (3) years’ relevant technical experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
• At least two (2) years’ experience in cold rolling, metal processing, production process control or comparable manufacturing operations.

Added Advantage

• Knowledge of cold rolling processes and 6HI Mill operations.
• Training or exposure to TPM, 6S, Autonomous Maintenance and Root Cause Analysis.
• Understanding of PLC-based control systems and industrial instrumentation.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
