Pensions Manager Job (250-300K)

Looking for an insurance job in Kenya? Corporate Staffing Services is recruiting a Pensions Manager position for a leading life insurance company. The salary for the role is Ksh 250,000 – 300,000 monthly. Proficiency in pensions administration, regulatory compliance (RBA), and stakeholder management is required.
Our client is a leading life insurance company and they are to hire a Pensions Manager. The Pensions Manager is responsible for the end-to-end servicing and administration of the company’s retirement benefits and pensions business. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role ensures that all pension schemes are administered accurately, efficiently, and in full compliance with the Retirement Benefits Act and the regulations and guidelines issued by the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA). The role leads the pensions servicing function to deliver timely, member-focused outcomes for scheme members, sponsors, and trustees.
Key Responsibilities
Pensions Administration & Servicing
- Oversee the day-to-day servicing and administration of pension schemes, including member enrolment, contribution processing, benefit computations and payment of benefits.
- Ensure contributions are received and remitted to the appointed custodian within statutory timelines and follow up on outstanding or late contributions in line with RBA requirements.
- Process withdrawals, transfers, deferments and retirement benefit claims in accordance with scheme rules and the Retirement Benefits (Withdrawal of Benefits) regulations.
- Ensure preparation and timely dispatch of annual member benefit statements as required by the RBA.
- Maintain accurate and secure member records and safeguard the integrity of scheme data.
- Manage and resolve member, sponsor and trustee queries, complaints and escalations within agreed service levels.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk
- Ensure full compliance with the Retirement Benefits Act, the RBA regulations and guidelines, scheme trust deeds and rules, and other applicable Kenyan legislation.
- Coordinate timely statutory submissions to the RBA, including levy payments, statutory returns and renewals.
- Support scheme registration, amendment of scheme rules and liaison with the RBA, KRA and other regulators as required.
- Ensure adherence to tax requirements affecting retirement benefits, including provisions of the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act and applicable tax-exemption rules.
- Identify, monitor and mitigate operational and compliance risks within the pensions function and implement appropriate internal controls.
Trustee, Sponsor & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with scheme trustees, sponsors, members and intermediaries.
- Support trustees in discharging their governance responsibilities, including organising trustee meetings and providing accurate, timely scheme information.
- Liaise with custodians, fund managers, auditors, actuaries and other service providers to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Serve as a key point of contact for all pension-related matters and provide expert technical guidance.
Team Leadership
- Lead, supervise, mentor and develop the pensions servicing team.
- Set performance objectives, monitor productivity and ensure adequate capacity, training and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, service excellence and continuous improvement.
Process & Performance Improvement
- Review and enhance pension servicing processes to improve efficiency, accuracy and member experience.
- Monitor service-level agreements and key performance indicators, reporting on performance to the Operations Manager.
- Drive automation and system enhancements within the pensions administration platform.
- Prepare periodic management reports on scheme performance, compliance status and operational metrics.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration or a related field.
- Professional qualification in pensions or insurance is an added advantage e.g. Trustee Development Programme Kenya (TDPK), Diploma in Insurance (AIIK /FSRI/ CII), or relevant RBA-recognised certification).
- Minimum of 5 –7 years’ experience in pensions or retirement benefits administration, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Sound working knowledge of the Retirement Benefits Act and RBA regulations and guidelines.
- Experience working with retirement benefits schemes, scheme administrators, custodians or fund managers in the Kenyan market.
- Strong technical knowledge of pension scheme administration and the Kenyan retirement benefits regulatory framework.
- Excellent leadership, people-management and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in pensions administration systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- High-level of integrity, confidentiality and a strong member- and customer-focused orientation.
