Lubricants Business Development Lead building and growing a new lubricants division, owning the P&L and driving strategy, sales, distribution and product portfolio management, requiring a bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or Engineering and 5+ years commercial experience in lubricants, oil & gas or FMCG, in an oil and gas environment, on-site role.

Our client is establishing a new lubricants division and are looking for a hands-on lubricants business-development lead who can help build it from the ground up. They will be responsible for the overall growth, profitability, and strategic development of the company’s lubricants business. The role will drive the end-to-end lubricants portfolio, including strategy, product development, sourcing, pricing, sales, distribution, marketing, customer relationships, and commercial performance.

The successful candidate will build sustainable competitive advantage by identifying market opportunities, strengthening channel and customer partnerships, optimizing the product portfolio, and delivering profitable revenue growth.

Business Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute the overall lubricants business strategy in line with the company’s growth objectives.
  • Establish annual business plans, budgets, sales targets, and profitability objectives.
  • Identify new market opportunities, customer segments, channels, and geographic expansion opportunities.
  • Lead the development of long-term growth initiatives, including new products, partnerships, and routes to market.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, customer needs, and industry developments to inform business decisions.
  • Own the overall P&L and commercial performance of the lubricants business.

Sales & Business Development

  • Lead the development and execution of the lubricants sales strategy across B2B, B2C, industrial, automotive, commercial, and other relevant segments.
  • Drive revenue, volume, gross margin, market share, and customer acquisition objectives.
  • Develop and manage strategic relationships with key distributors, dealers, fleet operators, OEMs, industrial customers, and other strategic accounts.
  • Strengthen distribution coverage and optimize channel performance.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Establish appropriate sales targets, incentives, performance metrics, and account-management practices.

Product & Portfolio Management

  • Develop and optimize the lubricants portfolio based on customer requirements, market opportunities, and profitability.
  • Oversee product launches, product positioning, specifications, packaging, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure products meet applicable OEM specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate opportunities for premium, specialty, synthetic, industrial, and other higher-value lubricant products.
  • Work closely with technical teams and suppliers to ensure product quality and performance.

Pricing, Procurement & Supply Chain

  • Develop pricing strategies that balance competitiveness, market positioning, volume growth, and profitability.
  • Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and strategic partners.
  • Optimize sourcing, inventory levels, working capital, and supply reliability.
  • Work closely with supply-chain teams to improve demand forecasting, availability, logistics, and service levels.
  • Identify opportunities to improve margins through portfolio, sourcing, pricing, and operational efficiencies.

Marketing & Brand Development

  • Develop and execute the lubricants marketing and brand strategy.
  • Build strong product and brand positioning across target customer segments.
  • Oversee trade marketing, promotions, customer engagement, digital marketing, events, and other demand-generation activities.
  • Develop market intelligence and competitor analysis to support commercial decisions.
  • Ensure consistent brand execution across channels and markets.

Financial & Performance Management

  • Own the lubricants business P&L, including revenue, gross margin, operating costs, and profitability.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators covering volume, revenue, margins, market share, customer acquisition, retention, and working capital.
  • Identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide regular business performance reports and strategic recommendations to senior management.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, product regulations, environmental requirements, and company policies.
  • Manage commercial, supply, credit, product, and reputational risks within the business.
  • Ensure appropriate product quality, documentation, and technical standards are maintained.
  • Promote strong governance and ethical business practices across the lubricants organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant commercial experience, preferably within lubricants, oil & gas, energy, automotive, chemicals, industrial products, or FMCG.
  • Proven experience leading a sizeable P&L or business unit.
  • Strong track record in sales, business development, channel management, and commercial strategy.
  • Experience managing distributors, strategic accounts, and complex B2B/B2C routes to market.
  • Strong understanding of lubricant products, applications, specifications, and market dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience in pricing, portfolio management, procurement, and supply-chain optimization.
