The jobholder is responsible for providing legal services to the Company by ensuring that legal claims are processed and responded to within the set timelines as well as ensuring that the Company’s interest is always protected.
Responsibilities
- Offer all round sound legal advice with a key focus on cost savings and customer satisfaction.
- Reduce overall legal costs by containing matters in-house through out-of-court negotiations.
- Minimize legal risks by identifying legal risks and taking steps to protect the company from legal liabilities.
- Control matters under litigation in liaison with external advocates with the aim of reducing costs.
- Manage panel Advocates and other service providers by holding them accountable to Service Level Agreements.
- Ensure Judgements are processed and paid before the lapse period.
- Ensure timely processing and payment of service provider fees.
- Maintain adequate reserving on all legal claims.
- Eliminate proclamations and/or attachments against our insured.
- Assisting in legal research and preparing legal opinions to both external and internal clients.
- Review and draft claims contracts, agreements and internal policies and ensure they comply with all statutory or legal requirements.
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Laws degree
- Postgraduate diploma in law
- Current practising certificate
Knowledge:
- At least 3 years’ post-admission experience, preferably in the insurance industry
- Experience in all insurance legal matters
