Job Responsibilities:

The Lead Fire Alarm Dispatcher is responsible for supervising the operations of the Fire Alarm Dispatch Team, ensuring the timely and appropriate dispatch of emergency responses. The role includes monitoring fire alarms, medical emergencies, and detection systems while ensuring adherence to operational standards. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Leading the dispatch team by providing oversight, supervision, and guidance to fellow fire alarm dispatchers.
  • Ensuring all dispatchers are properly trained to execute their duties effectively and in compliance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Mentoring and supporting dispatchers in their development and maintaining a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Monitoring & Dispatch:

  • Continuously monitoring alarm and detection systems to identify and respond to fire, medical, and other emergency alarms or detections.
  • Ensuring the appropriate emergency response units are dispatched in a timely and accurate manner for all received alarms and detections.
  • Monitoring all alarms and detection systems in compliance with established operating procedures and safety standards.

Operational Oversight and Documentation:

  • Overseeing dispatch operations, ensuring proper procedures are followed and the dispatch center operates efficiently and professionally at all times.
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate logs and records of all incidents, alarms, and responses.
  • Reviewing and updating dispatch protocols to align with fire department operational requirements and ensure alignment with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a lead dispatcher for a fire department with a similar size and scope to operations on Diego Garcia.
  • Certification in Telecommunicator I/II and Hazmat Awareness, in accordance with fire department standards.
  • Knowledge of fire, medical emergency, and detection alarm systems and procedures.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills to supervise and coordinate the activities of the dispatch team.
  • Effective communication skills to ensure accurate and timely reporting and coordination of emergency responses.
  • Proficient in operating alarm monitoring and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems as well as other communications equipment.
  • Excellent multitasking and decision-making skills to handle complex emergency situations under pressure.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce.
  • Valid country driver’s license.
  • Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
  • Experience in managing a fire emergency dispatch center for a government, military, or similar high-demand environment.
  • Familiarity with Navy or DoD dispatch and emergency response protocols.
  • Advanced certifications in emergency communications or fire department dispatch processes.
