Role Summary

The Kiswahili Teacher will plan, deliver and assess engaging Kiswahili language lessons for nursery and early primary learners. The role focuses on building a strong foundation in language fluency, literacy and communication while nurturing an appreciation for Kiswahili culture through interactive and age-appropriate learning approaches. The teacher will create stimulating classroom experiences using songs, storytelling, play-based learning and collaborative activities that support early language acquisition. Working closely with colleagues and parents, the teacher will monitor learner progress, provide individualized support where needed and contribute to a nurturing and inclusive learning environment aligned with the Aga Khan Education Service’s commitment to holistic, values-based education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Kiswahili lessons that promote language fluency, literacy, and cultural appreciation.
  • Develop lesson plans, teaching aids, and instructional materials appropriate for early learners.
  • Incorporate interactive learning approaches such as songs, storytelling, and play-based activities.
  • Provide individualized support to learners, including non-native Kiswahili speakers.
  • Assess learner progress through formative and summative assessments and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and prepare reports for parents and school leadership.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance language instruction and share teaching resources.
  • Support co-curricular activities such as cultural programs, music, poetry, and storytelling initiatives.
  • Participate in school meetings, professional development sessions, and collaborative planning activities.

The requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Education (Early Childhood Education, Primary Education with Kiswahili specialization) from a recognized institution.
  • Registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience, preferably in early years or lower primary.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Kiswahili effectively to young learners.
  • Experience implementing child-centered and activity-based learning approaches.
  • Strong proficiency in integrating technology as a teaching and learning tool.
