Job Purpose

Reporting to the Chief Education Officer & Chief Operations Officer this role will include overseeing the academic and operational aspects of the school to ensure the delivery of high-quality education in line with the vision and standards of Braeburn Schools. The Head Teacher will provide instructional leadership to faculty, developing, and implementing curriculum plans, managing student affairs, fostering a positive learning environment, and collaborating with the School Senior leadership team to achieve strategic goals. Additionally, the position is responsible for  maintaining effective communication with stakeholders, monitoring academic performance, and promoting the holistic development of students. This role plays a pivotal part in advancing the school’s mission of academic excellence and holistic education.

  1. Provide overall leadership to develop a vision and strategies (short, medium and long-term) to guide school expansions, operations and improvements.
  2. Be responsible for the growth of their schools. Specifically driving admissions by delivering an exemplary Braeburn Experience  throughout and identifying new opportunities.
  3. In collaboration with the ExCo, oversee the conceptualization and implementation of expansion strategies. Take leadership and be accountable for planning future growth by assessing existing and future business needs, establishing priorities, and identifying financial and human resources required for development.
  4. Set and manage school performance standards. Monitor performance against strategic plans and prepare reports for the ExCo. Produce annual school strategic plans with appropriate school policies reviewed in an agreed cycle (Ref Sip / Sef)
  5. Demonstrating a commitment  to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students by ensuring that all staff, and those connected to the school understand and  share this commitment and responsibility.
  6. Creating a culture and environment in which staff and young people thrive and thus raising educational standards and outcomes for all.
  7. Serving as instructional leader to develop a system for continuous improvement of teaching and learning standards.
  8. Ensuring the provision of high-quality learning through excellence in service delivery and performance management of teachers and resources.
  9. Ensuring the school delivers on the Braeburn Experience, is welcoming to all guests and potential pupils and their families, and exudes premium quality throughout.
  10. Ensuring the necessary school systems and policies are in place to support and maintain a flourishing school.
  11. Full compliance to Braeburn Group Education Policies, including the performance management of all staff.
  12. Ensuring an orderly, stimulating and motivational culture with a strong sense of school community.
  13. Recruiting high quality senior leadership, teaching & admin.
  14. Ensure the school is compliant with all legal requirements, statutory bodies, Group Policies and relevant external accreditation.

Leadership

  1. Setting the tone and implementing / modelling the guiding statements.
  2. Setting high standards of behaviour and expectations of the school community.
  3. Providing dynamic, consistent and motivational leadership for the school and its community.
  4. Taking overall responsibility for the strategic planning and operation of the school in line with the school’s guiding statements.
  5. Ensuring  student & Staff welfare & wellbeing.
  6. Influencing change and new processes by evolving skills, technologies, applications, and practices for the continuous exploration of data to gain insight that will lead to data driven decisions.
  7. Guiding, developing, mentoring and coaching a team of staff who provide technical and administrative support to the school(s)
  8. Creating a motivated and high performing staff team with clear roles and responsibilities.

Education and Delivery

  1. Ensuring the school curriculum is of an excellent quality, links with examination boards are up to date and appropriate accreditation is obtained and maintained.
  2. Ensuring that a modern, 21st century curriculum is developed and delivered through effective learning and assessment practice, with rigorous monitoring and support in place for the teachers.
  3. Driving innovation in education, ensuring that the school is able to respond to a changing external environment and that the skills, learning and aspirations of the students are developed and enhanced at all key stages.
  4. Ensuring that a high quality education experience is available for all students who attend the school.

Partnerships

  1. Working in partnership with parents to raise educational standards, promoting lifelong learning, and improving outcomes for all.
  2. Fostering and enhancing strong links with other Braeburn Schools, other Kenyan schools and where applicable, out of Kenya..
  3. Supporting and developing public service, internationalism and social enterprise activities.
  4. Developing relationships with businesses, organisations and individuals that support the guiding statements, curriculum and create opportunities for the school community.

Resources and Performance Management

  1. Delivering effective management for the school within the school’s educational budget and in accordance with group policies
  2. Developing and implementing a performance management framework for the delivery of high quality education.
  3. Working to, and reporting on, targets for achievement and operation of the school, as detailed in the SIP
  4. Recruiting, managing, developing and motivating a committed, effective and diverse workforce that has a clear understanding of the vision of the school and where individuals have role clarity enabling and promoting high quality learning.

Key Outputs/Deliverables

  1. Sustainable Growth: Leading the growth plan of xxxxx school and overseeing implementation of the educational aspects of the plan; Be fundamental in the decision- making process ensuring that the growth plan stays on track for your school.
    1. Organisational performance management: Standards and key performance indicators for academics set, monitored and corrective action taken.
    1. Reporting: Ensuring key liaison with the Executive Principal, providing reports and data-sets as per agreement with the EP.
    1. Strategic Planning: Driver of the school’s strategic academic plans and lead the implementation of strategies, under the direction of the EP.
    1. Staff: Creating a motivated and high performing staff team with clear roles and responsibilities.
    1. Ensuring the Braeburn Experience is premium quality throughout all aspects of the school.
  • Teaching Degree (or equivalent) (essential)
  • Leadership/management training (preferred)
  • Post graduate qualification in a relevant field. (preferred)

Knowledge, Experience and Competences

  • At least ten (10) years of school experience, two (2) of which must be in a leadership position in international education, preferably as Deputy Head.
  • Extensive overall management experience with prior success in building teams and driving change initiatives.
  • Supervisory and leadership development experience with Middle managers and academic staff
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills -achieving results through people.
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills.
  • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills.
  • Self-starter, high energy level with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Keen to learn and adaptable to change, with a desire to contribute to decision making at the highest level.
  • Managing various stakeholder relationships with necessary care and skills; and
  • Highest level of personal and professional integrity.
