If Your CV Can’t Tick These 3 Boxes, It’s Not Ready for the Recruiter
A few weeks ago, we spoke to a completely frustrated job seeker. “I honestly don’t know what else to do,” she said. “I’ve applied everywhere.”
When we asked to see her CV, the first thing she proudly mentioned was, “I used AI to write it, so I know it’s professional.” And to be fair, it looked professional; there was clean formatting, big words, and well-structured sentences.
But after reading it for less than two minutes, the problem became obvious. It looked good, but it wasn’t ready for the recruiter, and that’s the mistake and assumption many job seekers are making today.
Because with the rise of AI, many people now believe that a polished CV automatically means an effective CV. Unfortunately, recruiters don’t care how “nice” your CV sounds if it fails to communicate your value quickly and clearly.
So before you hit “Send” on your next application, ask yourself this:
Can your CV tick these 3 important boxes?
If not, it’s probably costing you opportunities.
1. Does It Clearly Show What Makes You Different?
Recruiters go through hundreds of CVs, and to be honest, many AI-written CVs now sound the same. Words like “Results-driven professional” and “Highly motivated individual” are becoming exhausting to see.
The phrases themselves are not wrong; the problem is that they don’t tell the recruiter anything memorable about you. What exactly did you achieve? What problems did you solve? What impact did you make? These are what your CV should tell.
A recruiter should quickly understand why you are different from the next applicant. If your CV feels generic, they won’t spend time trying to figure you out. They’ll simply move to the next application.
2. Does It Match the Job You’re Applying For?
This is where many job seekers fail without realizing it.
When you use one AI-generated CV for every application. Same wording, same structure, and same content, you’ve already lost because companies are not the same; they have different needs and goals, and definitely are not looking for the same thing from a candidate.
A recruiter wants to immediately see that your experience connects to their role.
If your CV is not tailored to them, their job description, industry language and required skills. Then your application starts losing value before it’s even fully read. And in some cases, it may not even pass applicant tracking systems.
3. Does It Sound Human?
This might sound strange, but recruiters can often tell when a CV feels overly generated. Sometimes the wording is too polished, too robotic, and too perfect. Be careful not to send a recruiter to Google what it is exactly you are trying to communicate.
One recruiter recently mentioned something very interesting: “Some CVs sound like they were written for the internet, not for a real job,” and that says a lot.
If your CV sounds artificial, recruiters may question whether your skills are authentic too.
AI is making many CVs forgettable; a recruiter should not finish reading your CV and struggle to remember you five minutes later.
That document is supposed to market you, not just generate professional sentences. So before you apply again, take another look at your CV. Does it clearly position your value? Does it sound authentic? Does it speak directly to the role you want?
If not, then it’s not ready for the recruiter yet.
