Job objective:

• We are seeking an experienced Head of Section – Horticulture (Vegetables) to lead vegetable production in designated farm sections. The role focuses on achieving optimal crop establishment, growth, yield, and quality, while meeting production targets and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute weekly planting programs and ensure proper crop establishment.
• Maintain clean, weed-free fields and oversee crop support operations (coiling, tucking, topping, etc.).
• Supervise irrigation, nutrition programs, and pest/disease management.
• Plan and allocate labor efficiently; participate in accurate harvest forecasting.
• Ensure adherence to production, quality, and operational standards.

Key Performance Indicators:

• Achievement of agreed production targets.
• Quality of produce supplied to packhouses (minimum 65% Class 1/PO standard).
• Accuracy of harvest predictions (target margin of error ≤ 15%).
• Section and crop cleanliness standards.
• Timely and high-quality execution of cultural operations (weeding, coiling, tucking, topping).
• Efficient irrigation and minimal water wastage.
• Effective pest and disease management.
• Proper implementation of plant nutrition programs.

Qualifications and Key Competence:

• Diploma or Degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or related field.
• 5+ years in commercial vegetable production; 2+ years in a supervisory role.
• Strong technical knowledge of vegetable crops, irrigation, and IPM.
• Proven leadership, planning, and analytical skills.
• Results driven with excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
