About the Assignment

NexGen Fuel Works is seeking an experienced freelance Mechanical / Fabrication Project Supervisor to represent the company during the fabrication, assembly, inspection and testing of two containerised diesel storage and dispensing units. The project involves double-wall steel diesel storage tanks, modified shipping containers, industrial fuel piping, mechanical equipment, safety systems and associated electrical and instrumentation interfaces. The successful candidate will supervise the work of a specialist fabrication contractor in Nairobi, ensuring compliance with approved drawings, specifications, quality requirements and the agreed project schedule.

  • Supervise fabrication of double-wall diesel storage tanks, container structures and mechanical assemblies.
  • Monitor fabrication and installation of industrial fuel piping, valves, vents, manifolds and associated components.
  • Review fabrication drawings, technical specifications and material requirements.
  • Monitor welding quality, material traceability, NDT, pressure testing and leak testing.
  • Verify compliance with approved Inspection and Test Plans and applicable standards.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces between the fabricator and NexGen’s equipment suppliers.
  • Monitor fabrication progress, milestones and potential delays.
  • Identify technical deviations, non-conformities and corrective actions.
  • Witness critical inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests.
  • Prepare regular progress reports supported by photographs.
  • Assist with final inspection, punch-list closure and handover documentation.
  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant industrial fabrication or mechanical construction experience.
  • Proven experience supervising steel storage tank fabrication and industrial piping installations.
  • Practical knowledge of welding, NDT, pressure testing and quality inspection procedures.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical fabrication drawings, P&IDs and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with applicable ASME, API, ISO or equivalent engineering standards.
  • Strong contractor-supervision, reporting and coordination skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Based in Nairobi or available for regular attendance at a Nairobi fabrication facility.

Preferred Experience

  • Petroleum storage and dispensing installations.
  • Double-wall tanks and secondary containment systems.
  • Oil and gas, fuel terminal or industrial mechanical projects.
  • Third-party inspection and Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Mechanical and electrical equipment integration.
