Position Overview

Kivukoni is seeking a dedicated and experienced GCSE and A Level English and Drama teacher, with a strong commitment to fostering students’ confidence, creativity, and
critical thinking. Skilled in delivering engaging, well-structured lessons that develop advanced literacy, independent thought, creativity and high-quality performance skills.
Experienced in preparing students for both GCSE and ideally A Level assessment requirements, while nurturing a supportive, inclusive classroom culture that values
intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and expressive risk-taking.

The English/Drama Teacher at Kivukoni School contributes to our mission of fostering an inspiring learning environment where all students thrive in an inclusive
learning environment. This is a dynamic teaching position within the salary range of 100,000-170,000 kenyan shillings (gross), variable with qualifications and
experience.

As well as being an inspiring and well informed educator, the role will involve being a supportive collaborator with teachers and management staff, a committed facilitator of every student’s personal and academic growth, and a diplomatic communicator with parents. This position also includes involvement in the co-curricular program as far as is reasonable. The position reports directly to the Headteacher.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high-quality English and Drama lessons at GCSE and A Level, aligned with Edexcel or Cambridge International curriculum requirements and school values.
• Support for Primary School Productions.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom culture that supports curiosity, creativity, and student voice.
• Prepare students effectively for external examinations through clear instruction, structured practice, and timely feedback.
• Assess, track, and report on student progress accurately, using assessment to inform teaching and support individual learning needs.
• Encourage confident communication, critical thinking, and thoughtful performance, both written and practical.
• Contribute positively to the wider life of the school, including productions, enrichment activities, and collaborative planning.
• Integrate local culture and context where appropriate to enrich drama learning
• Manage classroom behavior effectively and maintain high expectations
• Maintain high standards of behaviour for learning, professionalism, and safeguarding at all times.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice to continuously improve teaching and learning.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in English / Drama, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field
• Teaching qualification (e.g., PGDE, PGCE, or equivalent) is a strong advantage
• Registered with TSC
• Experience teaching Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE / GCSE Drama is highly preferred
• Strong knowledge and expertise with international teaching pedagogy and assessment methods
• Significant experience directing dynamic and creative student productions
